Someone gave us this DVD of The Last Waltz. Sometimes, I forget how good The Band was. So many influences. Also Van Morrison was(is) really cool.

it's quite the constellation and Thanksgiving dinner for all ticket buyers. Levon, who bitterly called it Robertson's Big Rip Off, wanted no part of Neil Diamond in the gig, as he had really no influence on them at all. According to his autobio, Robbie wanted to oust Muddy Waters for Diamond, because he was producing Neil's current album. The only genre missing that clearly influenced their work was heavy soul music - Curtis Mayfield and the Miracles, especially, had a profound influence on RR's guitar style and the layering of vocals.

The Celtic/Olde English poetry adds character too, I've seen it so many times but could easily throw it in right now.

listening to British Band-its Brinsley Shwarz right now - just learned about them and they have a nice, nice sound.

One of the sections I have this semester is 17 dudes and 2 girls. Wtf

I feel for those girls already.

To say Morrison was wasted that evening diminishes the heights of his evident intoxication. But my was he good...

I'd never heard the backstory about Neil Diamond's curious presence. Oddly, I feel like he gave one of his most genuine performances, and his choice of song was apt.

Brinsley Schwarz, one of those bands with a great Spinal Tap-ish history, intersecting as he/they/it did with Nick Lowe, Dave Edmunds, Graham Parker et al. Never knew of his/their intersection with The Band/Robertson until now

Virtually all of the most earnest and dramatic and creative cursing I have ever done has been done in the throes of changing automobile tires, for the very reason you cite. I have never checked into the aftermath, but I would not be surprised if some of the "automotive professionals" I've condemned to unspeakable ends in those bouts actually expired due to the malevolent energies I directed their way.

The tire-changing tools supplied with contemporary autos are almost comically flimsy - scissor jacks look like something you should use solely to shell walnuts - but you can indeed do the job with them.
