it's quite the constellation and Thanksgiving dinner for all ticket buyers. Levon, who bitterly called it Robertson's Big Rip Off, wanted no part of Neil Diamond in the gig, as he had really no influence on them at all. According to his autobio, Robbie wanted to oust Muddy Waters for Diamond, because he was producing Neil's current album. The only genre missing that clearly influenced their work was heavy soul music - Curtis Mayfield and the Miracles, especially, had a profound influence on RR's guitar style and the layering of vocals.
The Celtic/Olde English poetry adds character too, I've seen it so many times but could easily throw it in right now.
listening to British Band-its Brinsley Shwarz right now - just learned about them and they have a nice, nice sound.
