Sequestering The Night Away - Politics

Brown isn't a race. (Well, there's no such thing really as race, but you know) and politicians probably shouldn't use twitter much, if at all.

To be completely honest, I have never associated "monkey" as being a racist term re "brown people." I've associated it as a racist term in relation to African-Americans and Africans. I don't even know who qualifies as a "brown person". That's a weird term that doesn't even make sense to me. An Iranian is a "brown person"? Is there anything similar about the cultural experience of Iranians and Africans? That's news to me. Pakistani? Colombian?

yes, all of those people are brown, trent. hispanics, arabs, indians are generally considered brown. the british, during their 400 year oppression and occupation of india, would frequently use derogatory terms like "monkey"

my original post was just a "ha ha" at amash calling out mccain. i did not call mccain a racist.

jamie, brown people are allowed to call other brown people "monkey" (and in his native language it would not be considered an insult at all). just like black people can use the n-word and the rest of us can't.

Agreed.

Calling an African a "monkey" is racist because of the clear connection to the belief (throughout history) that blacks are of inferior intelligence, smaller brains, subhuman and therefore capable of being enslaved, white man's burden, etc.

You just can't apply that across the board because of skin pigment. That's nonsense.

Also, I find the use of the n word by anybody, including black people, distasteful and probably racist.

John McCain said the word Gook for decades after Vietnam. I'm pretty sure he is a bigoted fool.

Not really buying what you're selling but you're the same guy that doesn't seem troubled by Drudge posting pics of Obama, Stalin and Hitler above an article conflating the 3 of them, so I'm not surprised.

It's almost as if you have no idea what words mean. I called the post "insane" and you bring it up a month later as a mark against me with the recollection/translation I wasn't troubled by it.

Does PA allow double dipping--where you receive your pension from one state job and then take another state job simultaneously?

If the boy said "I want to send a monkey to the moon, where they don't have imaginary holocausts," then you should ask him if he volunteered to go. And I would not call you racist. :)

Probably, but I don't feel worthy to pass judgement on that one. Not sure how I would feel towards the race of my captors after spending 7 years in a POW camp that left me pretty fucked up.

Probably some lasting hostility from that one. Doubt I would be a better man there

you know,i believe so. i do know you can retire and then become a 'contractor' with the state. you can also a job where you get no taxes withdrawn and then you must set up a way to pay them yourself. you are not considered an independent contactor per se, but it is basically what happens. this is almost every base worker with the LIHEAP program, which consists of many retired workers who are also receiving their pension. the job is one that doesnt consist of contributing to or withdrawing from the pension system, so i believe that is why it is ok.

lump payments and double-dippers are what give the majority of pensioned workers a bad name. people like arlene ackerman, who did some OK work, get a buyout and then try to get UC on top of it. unfortunately, these agregious and non-common anecdotal things are what hte public can latch onto, because pension negotations are boring-ass stuff.

the smaller government gets, the harder it gets to provide enough compensation for the work being done. then we lower the pay and lower the standards of the workers filling out these positions, and our government only gets worse. it's a tough cycle. more federalising of the pension system might be a good idea, to lift the burden of the state and local municipalities and let them focus on what they should be doing for their populace. this is why i also think a single-payer system is best, because it gets rid of the concept of the business being responsible for the healthcare of its employees and instead makes it a communal thing, allowing businesses to simply offer competitive wages to attract a better worker.

Given the problems with state pensions (even though Arkansas is in better shape than most in that regard) I'm glad I'm in a defined contribution plan. Admittedly, it's a generous defined contribution plan (university match +2% up to 10% maximum match).
