it means any immigrant who leverages the auto-citizenship of a baby born on US soil as a path to citizenship. As I said, it's insensitive, and originally referred to Vietnamese. Just because many illegal aliens are Hispanic doesn't make the phrase racist against Hispanics all of a sudden. If I say that Lacrosse players are jerks, is that racist against whites because most are white? Or if I said that basketball players are assholes, is that racist against blacks? No, it's an insensitive comment directed at lacrosse players, or at basketball players. But it's not racism, and I think it's abhorrent to toss around such accusations of racism with complete seriousness.

it's abhorent, yes so abhorent. unforunately, an unserious, hyperbolic liberal such as myself is being a big racist, like usual. it's pathetic, honestly and i dont know why i do it.

No no. Just a reverse racist, which is completely different.

there is no such thing as a reverse racist, and that wouldn't even be me if there were one. sorry, i dont hate myself. people are simply racist. anyway,

I was also making fun of the reverse racism designation. You're not racist, or reverse racist.

the idea of the memo is the issue. that it needs to exist is the issue.

Personally, I think it's racist, insensitive, and all of the above when the Republicans constantly talk about closing the border as if illegals are only Mexicans.

Almost half of all those who are here illegally are from Asia.

a large portion of those who are 'illegal' are people whose visas or papers expired, so they previously were admitted lawfully. the various ideas fix this issue.

I think "anchor baby" is a useful term. I knew what it was immediately.

Is the insensitive part the accusation that this is done intentionally? If not, I really don't see what's wrong about it.

Always thought anchor baby was more of an Asian thing and now is just the common name for any illegal immigrant that uses this practice. Not sure why so many are getting so upset about it.

totally agree. we should just call the users of the aforementioned disagreeable terms complete fucking assholes with zero to contribute to our social discourse, who we should all shun, and leave it at that.

Senator Has Long Ties to Donor Under Scrutiny

Two years ago, Dr. Melgen, despite an apparent lack of experience in border security issues, bought an ownership interest in a company that had a long-dormant contract with the Dominican Republic to provide port security. Mr. Menendez, who is chairman of the Senate subcommittee that holds sway over the Dominican Republic, subsequently urged officials in the State and Commerce Departments to intervene so the contract would be enforced, at an estimated value of $500 million.
