Texas is about as ridiculous as Florida--as far as property tax paid by renters--all of it, I would guess, right? I mean, renting properties is a business, presumably for most landlords a profitable one, so costs would be less than revenue.

Look at the fine state that I live in. 16.9% paid by the lowest 20%. This system we got of 10% sales tax and no state income tax is working out grand.

interesting analogy here

The insurance companies are creating their own tombs. Much like the Jews boarding the trains to concentration camps, private insurers are used by the feds to put the system in place because the federal government has no way to set up the exchange.

Emerging TWITTER consensus that Hagel is pooping all over himself in this confirmation hearing. Lots of jokes about how he probably wasn't ready for the altitude.

Will probably still be confirmed.

So the Mayans were off by a month or two.

A good Holocaust analogy smartens up any stupid idea.

a kinder, gentler GOP:
The memo suggests that Republican senators and congressmen refer to "undocumented immigrant[s]" rather than "illegals" or "aliens" and that they never use the phrase "anchor babies." It also warns Republicans against using the term "amnesty" to describe the plan, and suggests attacking President Obama for not pushing earlier for a plan.

a primer on how to not be racist. brilliant.

WTF is an anchor baby? Is that where an illegal immigrant gives birth to a baby inside our borders so he/she is born a citizen?

nm Wikipedia just answered my question. Good lord, how tone deaf are these morons to use a term like that?

yeah

"Anchor baby" is a pejorative term for a child born in the United States to immigrant parents, who, as an American citizen, supposedly can later facilitate immigration for relatives.

i believe it was an Arizona congressperson or state legislator that wanted to basically retroactively take away citizenship from undocumented immigrants' children.

What does this have to do with race? Which words are code racist words? Illegal, alien, anchor baby, amnesty?

Can anything insensitive be called racist now?

Edit: To head off docsmooth's criticism of my post with 3.5 questions, I'll add an opinion. Liberals throw around the very serious accusation of racism way too often in an attempt to discredit their opposition. I would say, when it comes to extremists within the parties, I'll propose an analogy.

Dumb conservative : dumb liberal ; racist : socialist

No. Insensitivity does not mean racism, unless you're talking about, y'know, race and racial differences.

What part of that is racist again?

i don't think you're a racist, werthless. but what you just said is pretty ignorant. there are numerous examples of veiled racist terms used by the GOP today (sarah palin's "shuck and jive" comment comes to mind). if you can't acknowledge that there really is no point in having this conversation
