What's the protocol for how fast should you be going over the speed limit if you are in the left lane on an interstate? I was going 9 over and that apparently wasn't good enough

let everyone else go as fast as they want. protocol is to just stay out of the way if you're not going as fast

Saw a trooper pull onto the highway after giving out a ticket and some guy that passed me (while I was in right lane) got a ticket 10 seconds later. It was awesome.

If you have room to get over, you do it. I mean, if you're constantly passing cars then fine, but it drives me nuts when some jerk is sitting in the left lane going like 3 mph over and i have to pass him. The rule is slower traffic to the right.

The rule is also not to exceed the speed limit.

It depends in part on the speed limit of the road and the state and how heavy the traffic is. If the limit is 70, then 75 isn't too bad for the left lane and that probably holds for most interstates on the east coast, and it holds anywhere the traffic is fairly heavy. But in any event, you should move to the right if someone comes up behind you. But in places like Texas and in much of west, you're probably better off going closer to 85 if you want to stay in the left lane.

However, in general, you should travel in the right lane and use the left lane for passing. If the traffic is heavy enough that the right lane just isn't open enough to make that practical, then you really probably should stay 5 or so miles over the speed limit.
