This is just what I was talking about above. Not sure if Christie is being calculating, or just emotional.

Look, I am as cynical as the next guy with regard to anything Christie says/does but is it possible, just possible, that he is simply genuinely appreciative of the support of our sitting President? I mean, Christie was as critical of Obama as anybody and he, as a Romney supporter and Republican, certainly has no incentive to make Obama look good.

I am not sure why I feel this way but I would be surprised if this were some "means to an end" play by Christie. Love him or hate him, it is impossible to deny that Chris Christie is 100% New Jerseyan. I think he is truly hurt and saddened by the destruction of his home state and it shows.

Of course it is possible, I thought that is what I was acknowledging when I said, "or just emotional" - like, an emotional, heart-felt reaction of gratitude toward the President.

Sorry, Moz; I agree with you. I think I was trying to respond more to Nolte than you but caught your quote in it.

100% agreed. I don't think he's focusing on anything other than disaster relief right now.

i saw christie walking through the destruction and people are talking to him literally crying. he is allowed to focus on his state and be thankful for the help the federal government is giving the people there. people who think otherwise are dicks.

FEMA boss fires back at Brown

By BOBBY CERVANTES | 10/31/12 1:01 PM EDT

FEMA Director Craig Fugate had a blunt response on Wednesay to his Bush-era predecessor who criticized President Barack Obama’s early preparation for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.

“It’s better to be fast than to be late,” Fugate said on NPR’s “Morning Edition.”

Michael Brown, who ran the agency during Hurricane Katrina, told POLITICO Tuesday that he stood by his criticism that Obama moved too quickly federal relief and response to Sandy.

“In the context of the election, I simply said he should have waited,” Brown said. “The storm was still forming, people were debating whether it was going to be as bad as expected, or not, and I noted that the president should have let the governors and mayors deal with the storm until it got closer to hitting the coastal areas along the Washington, D.C.-New York City corridor.”

There's little in Christie's past to suggest he's capable of being that calculating.

I dunno, he strikes me as a very good politician, and very good politicians are almost always pretty calculating.

Christie has made it a point to highlight his high profile across-the-aisle work throughout his governorship, but i thought he came across very serious and sincere on fox news. Proud of governor sandwiches here

Michael Brown giving advice on response to natural disasters? That is a bit like Ann Coulter giving advice on how to be human. I wonder what Brownie thought about Bob McDonnell declaring a state of emergency in Virginia while Sandy was still 750 miles south of Virginia Beach. I guess that was right on time?

Considering the predictive value of polls, is there anything to be made of surprises in a bunch of recent European elections?

What a guy.

What am I supposed to get outraged about here?

1) He turned a campaign event into a charity photo op
2) He only promised aid at first to swing states, NJ was added later

The plan since yesterday was to deliver goods to New Jersey. They also raised money for the Red Cross at the events and over email, and they're continuing to push giving money to the Red Cross today at his events in Florida.

You're getting mad at people for trying to help out.

S.M ‏@redsteeze
@politico President Obama, visiting a shelter in N.J., tells Gov. Christie "Thanks for your praise, you can have your money now.." #Fixed

it's not gonna do anything to his NJ ratings, but i wonder if #tcots will start turning on christie now. really can't believe it's that big of a deal for christie to have praised the pres.

He went on a shopping trip and handed the cans out for a cheap photo op. I'm not mad because he's trying to help. I'm frustrated because everything he does reaks of sleaze, even when his intentions are good.
