The fact that you presumably wrote this with a straight face brings me endless amusement and joy.

I'd still like to hear the reasoning behind this.

I think she's more competent than Obama. She'd have done a better job at dealing with Congress. More results oriented. I think she has a greater sense of responsibility than Obama does. Being president is tricky and Hillary would have been able to skip a lot of the catching up/learning process due to her experiences from 1993-2001.

Plus, she would have known, deep down in her gut, not to believe one thing a republican politician told her. She would have been more aggressive, which is what the situation called for.

Still, Obama has accomplished a lot with a congress that didn't want him to have ANY accomplishments, even if it meant a double dip recession.

By the way, if Romney wins, I bet all those companies hoarding their huge profits will suddenly be interested in hiring and expanding again, and it won't be because they believe Romney will be better for the economy. Big business wants Obama to fail because they know a mitt presidency means no regulation and no taxes for private jet set. Now that's a conspiracy I can believe.

There appears to be little he'd do to help anyone.

he does have a long history of treating the helpless people/animals around him like crap to the point of complete disregard for the fact that they have any worth at all. I think this personalily trait is what makes him scary. When it comes right down to it, I don't think most people could really go through with pulling the rug out from under the old and the poor. I don't think romney would have any problem with it.

I find it amazing that this is just brushed under the rug. "I made a huge tiny mistake".

this is the Mitt I talk about- that I've talked about well before that- when I say he is pure evil.

I'm not really pro Barack, just ant-Mitt.

Honestly, while I understand why the Dems need to hit this particular button until it breaks, I also understand that Romney was just talking to a bunch of donors, and telling them what they want to hear to give him money in a relaxed sort of way. If anything, it says more about his donors than it says about him.

Funny thing is, if you are a glutton for punishment like me and wander into comments sections and conservative blogs, that 47% thing has become a positive talking point.

most of the population doesn't separate income tax and payroll tax in their head - I didn't and still don't, really - so now they just think the "welfare state" is even worse than they thought, that half the country doesn't pay a dime off their paycheck

In all seriousness, how many people here actually pay income tax as opposed to payroll tax?

While we're piling on, my feeling is this one is the hardest of JH's assertions to defend.

The buck stops with Hillary on foreign policy, apparently.

after a week or two of thinking about it....Consider the negotiating that quite likely went on between/among the Obama & Clinton combines over how to handle this incident. I imagine they're much less concerned with the mouse-noises from candidate flipflop than the valuation of political capital to be exchanged between them.

Yes, but in a double utley you can put your utley on top they other guy's utley, and you're the winner. (Swish)

The point I was trying to make. Romney's income tax claim was misleading.

Me. My wife and I get a (relatively) minor federal refund due to charitable donations and various deductions.

With respect, he adds a lot more substance here than you do. I hate his yay-team partisanship, about half because I don't share it and half because I hate all yay-team partisanship, but the guy is smart as hell, brings the goods when he's not posting poll results, and shows a willingness to swim against the tide of which I'm in near awe. There's a reason he's BSG Hall of Fame (unless he's not, in which case what a fucking travesty).

Snark aside, I would recommend staying out of this thread if it's too upsetting. I wish I had the mental toughness to do so myself, to be honest.

Eh, I was really just kidding. I don't believe in banning anyone actually. It was a joke in a let's ban the token Republican sort of way. Yay me!

And I do add substance. Dummy.

It says quite a bit about him. Monkeyboy nailed it:

I don't think most people could really go through with pulling the rug out from under the old and the poor. I don't think romney would have any problem with it.

Read carefully: this doesn't mean he'd even bother to actually do it. It means he wouldn't have any problem doing it.

Look in the mirror: could you be that guy?
