i think phhhh is talking about how the media has fallen into this idea that biden is some bumbling, stumbling fool. if you listen to a speech of his, or have watched him on cspan on the foreign relations committee, of course he's not, but i don't think that's a common viewpoint that is put across to people from the media or from republicans (for example, our own jh thinks he's fairly stupid).

Right-wing media turns every liberal into a cartoon character, except maybe Joe Lieberman. Who'd actually make a pretty good cartoon character.

Maybe y'all would like to hear from somebody on the right, somebody who is voting for Romney/Ryan. I thought the debate was roughly a draw. Joe behaved badly; his plastic smirk is akin to Algore's sighs. Ryan, the new kid, needed to show he was serious and well informed. He executed well on that count. Off-script, Joe was stronger and his experience showed. Ryan, one of very few pols to confront the math that we cannot continue on the current entitlement path, did not strongly enough make the case that fixing social programs is preferable to running them into ruin. Insta-polls seem to confirm my impression; Joe needed to breathe some life into his party and he did. Ryan needed to demonstrate that he's not Palin, Quayle, or a liability of any sort. Wonkish and nerdy, but capable. Check.

Bettors are still going for Obama, 2 to 1. But it's a race.

fix them by getting rid of them.

al gore destroyed bush and all people talked about were his sighing with bush's lies. but bush lied. it seems like people hate the guy that points out the lie more than the guy that says the lie.

I don't know, I saw a nervous Paul Ryan who looked uncomfortable and uneasy. He kept taking phantom sips from his glass of water because he was overwhelmed.

Joe Biden never let him get comfortable and into a rhythm all night.

Bill Maher ‏@billmaher
Ryan is the kind of guy who shakes your hand extra hard to let you know he's been working out.

Not sure where you got that idea.

Most (not all) conservatives recognize the value of social programs, Ryan included. What they also recognize is that by the nature of entitlement programs, the pool of persons who collect expands. That was kinda OK while the pool of new payors expanded too. Even Democrats know it's unsustainable, but are content to kick the can down the road. It would be so much easier to fix it now than to wait for the crisis.

LOL

He's a loose cannon, subject to putting his foot in his mouth, and wears his emotions on his sleeve. He's not your typical policitian, which is why both liberals and conservatives have a special spot in their hearts for Biden. But he's not stupid. Well, outside of the time(s) he plagiarized.

That Ryan is some type of groundbreaking thinker when it comes to social welfare programs? Please.
