lot of interesting stuff in there, but notably how I sort of knew but never really captured that saying "towel" similar to "tail" is central to Philly

thanks, this is cool. i get a real kick out of regional dialects

Pretty interesting, but a lot of the terminology is bewildering.

Was anyone else raised to be terrified of microwave ovens? Even though I know better, part of me still thinks that anyone who opens the microwave door while it's still running is creating a small kitchen Chernobyl.

It's funny, because my father was an engineer who worked with microwave devices. Throughout the 70s, he argued that he didn't want a microwave oven because of its dangers. I now believe those arguments were a smokescreen--he just didn't want to spend the money on one. I imagine they cost more back then than they do today.

He also didn't like us getting dental x-rays.

One of my 1st year college suitemates (who was an engineering student, BTW), would yell at any of us who opened the common microwave before it stopped beeping. He said that it would release radiation. He probably would've had a heart attack if we opened it while it was still cooking.

Hot pockets are nasty when cooked in a toaster oven, but I'd imagine a microwaved Hot pocket would be nastiness squared.

It must take like 45 minutes to cook a Hot Pocket in a toaster oven, which is enough time to leave the house to get and/or prepare real food, thus negating the whole purpose of the Hot Pocket.
