I read the article about Rove's wordsmithing in the WSJ Op-Ed. Also read the Op-Ed. Was trying to figure out what the endorsement part was or all of that just went way over my head.

lethal, don't know if you saw but the Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee voted down Kwon's nomination. Hell of a thing. Hearing sounds like it was absurd.

Santorum added: “If they’re going to be a little different, we might as well stay with what we have instead of taking a risk of what may be the Etch A Sketch candidate for the future.”

I was pretty much with you-I mean, duh, Christie is trying to pack the court with Republicans- but this statement by Kwon comes across as a bald-faced lie, so it does give me pause:

The store settled the lawsuit in December and forfeited nearly $160,000. The business did not admit any liability, Kwon was not named in the case and no charges were filed. All of the appropriate taxes were paid, Kwon said, and his mother simply made a "mistake."

"I explained to her that making deposits in this way probably raised red flags with the bank," Kwon told the committee. "She was not attempting to launder funds or evade taxes. She made a mistake because she didn’t know the reporting requirements."

There's simply no explanation for making the deposits in this way unless in fact you DO know the reporting requirements. Not htat this implies any nefarious intent. which just means it's also an unnecessary lie.

Indeed. That part seemed really suspect. I didn't really understand what it had to do with him being a SC judge. Like was she evading taxes and did he tell her how? Didn't seem like that was what they were trying to argue.

Democrats said the questions are appropriate because Kwon helped his mother obtain legal representation, including the eventual hiring — at the suggestion a colleague, executive assistant attorney general Marc-Philip Ferzan — of Ferzan’s brother-in-law, John Carney, who negotiated the settlement. Kwon, Ferzan and Carney all worked for Christie at the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Anybody know if he, you know, is a good lawyer? All I've read about is his Mom and wife's business.

Yeah, as far as the tax stuff. I'm pretty sure that his mom was trying to hide income from the IRS, probably because her friends and colleagues in similar businesses told her that's what everyone does and here's what you do. I don't think Phil Kwon knew anything about that. When the IRS came calling, she told her son what was up and he got her a lawyer that a colleague recommended, because that's what lawyers do. They tap their network. The mom settled with the IRS and paid her fine.

I agree, if the nominee did that, then yeah, its an issue. But his mom did it and he really would have no reason to know about it unless she told him for some reason. I figure if he's like most lawyers I know, if his mom told him, he would've told his mom to stop doing that. I say this because most of the people I know who became lawyers did so because they are risk adverse. If they wanted more risk, they would've gone into banking or business or something.

As far as his credentials, I dunno. Georgetown undergrad, Rutgers-Newark Law. I'm not going to say anything bad about either school since I went to both. Went to a big firm after law school, so he had to have some really good grades. Then clerked for a federal judge, so again, great grades. Then federal prosecutor for a long time including some leadership positions. There's nothing in his resume that would indicate that he was a bad attorney.

Now, I've never met him. He wasn't active in APALA-NJ when I was in school and I've never seen him at a NAPABA convention. He's never judged for me in the moot court competition that I help organize. I don't know anyone who has worked with him extensively. I can't comment on his skills and abilities from 1st or 2nd hand knowledge.

I'm not from Jersey, but based upon my experience here in VA, rarely does a state SC nomination survive or fail due to the quality of the candidate.

Floyd Norris gets at what I've been saying in response to people wanting to simplify the tax code and cut the loopholes and deductions.

What, exactly, is it that you want to cut? Be specific.

49/26/16/6 tonight in Louisiana. Might be the last primary won by anyone other than Romney.

How can anyone seriously vote for this guy when he refuses to divulge what he plans to do. He doesn't want to let us know because he's afraid it will be used against him. Well, Mitt, if it's something we like and is good for the country, you should be willing to tell us, willing to trust the voters. What a coward. It just goes to show that he doesn't have anything good planned for most Americans, just his rich friends at Bain.

“One of the things I found in a short campaign against Ted Kennedy was that when I said, for instance, that I wanted to eliminate the Department of Education, that was used to suggest I don’t care about education,” Romney told the magazine, recalling his 1994 run for Kennedy’s Senate seat.

You mean like you've been doing about Obama and Healthcare and everything else?

“So I think it’s important for me to point out that I anticipate that there will be departments and agencies that will either be eliminated or combined with other agencies. So for instance, I anticipate that housing vouchers will be turned over to the states rather than be administered at the federal level, and so at this point I think of the programs to be eliminated or to be returned to the states, and we’ll see what consolidation opportunities exist as a result of those program eliminations. So will there be some that get eliminated or combined? The answer is yes, but I’m not going to give you a list right now.”

The former Massachusetts governor has a tax plan that, in his own words, “can’t be scored” because it lacks the details that would allow the plan to be critically evaluated. He was happy to divulge that he would lower taxes for most Americans, but opted not to explain how he would make up for the lost revenue. Those details, he said earlier this month, should be worked out with Congress.

On the foreign policy front, Romney has criticized President Obama’s Afghanistan strategy but said he won’t put forward a plan until he hears from generals on the ground. As he said last week, “before I take a stand at a particular course of action, I want to get the input from the people who are there.”

http://2012.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/ ... hp?ref=fpa

And he admits that he isn't telling us for political reasons, because he's afraid people might actually ask him questions about it. Because he's afraid that he may actually be held accountable for his ideas. Welcome to the real world, Mitt, the world where the rest of us live, the world where people have to take risks and may actually fail without a silk pillow to catch our fall. You know, a world where our daddy's money won't gloss over our mistakes. What a coward. Seriously, what a fucking coward. Commander and Chief? I wouldn't trust this guy not to crawl into a corner and start crying when the shit hits the fan in some part of the world. Guess what, Mitt. The real world will be watching you as president and countries and people will say bad stuff about you, sometimes true and sometimes not, and you will have to deal with it. You can't even deal with it in the primary of your own party?

Every American should read this article. You may not agree with what Obama has done, but at least he's done pretty much what he campaigned to do. Who knows what this clown will do... he won't even let us in on the secret. His previous job was dismantling companies and putting people out of work. What will he dismantle as president? We already know where the auto industry would be if he was POTUS.
