Comments by his (Romney's) Mr. Fehrnstrom was asked if the campaign worried that Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich “might force the governor to tack so far to the right it would hurt him with moderate voters in the general election.”

To which Mr. Ferhnstrom responded: “Well, I think you hit a reset button for the fall campaign. Everything changes. It’s almost like an Etch A Sketch. You can kind of shake it up and restart all of over again.”

Now we know why Romney says the stupid things he says.

And why the rank-and-file think politicians are scumbags.

certainly seems likely to be getting more attention than news of Romney's coronation

“He was clearly talking about the campaign – not the candidate’s positions,” she (Gail Gitcho) said in an email, of Fehrnstrom’s comment. “We aren’t surprised that our opponents are hysterical over it. They would rather talk about anything other than their own records.”

In itself there is an interesting attempt to separate campaign from candidate. I do not really comprehend how that is possible as one must reflect the other. If this deflection is to simply say that the campaign shifts to Republican versus Democrat, then the comment is insulting stupid. If there is a reset on the campaign, is the candidate not doing specifically what his opponents are crowing about? How soon does Fehrnstrom find his freedom from the campaign never to work in this field again?

I did like the two trailing sentences as I was thinking about this just this morning. There are two of the four remaining in the race who have been voted out of office and have their own likability and image problems.

wasn't the question specifically about how romney has had to take some pretty extreme positions so far in the primary season?

At the breakfast, held in the Capitol Hill Hyatt, 88-year-old Rep. Ralph Hall (R-Tex.) told Romney that he "never met a Mormon I didn't like" and noted that the teetotalers "give me those airplane bottles of booze when we're on a flight." Romney laughed good-naturedly with the oldest House member.

I think it's the type of thing that will resonate with some people, apparently over 30% of people. I also think it plays into the idea that Mitt is pretty much a robot who doesn't mind (err, enjoys) firing people and doesn't seem to have some of the base feelings of guilt that most people have. Who the hell straps their family pet to the roof of their car on a long trip? The same type of guy who enjoys firing people and takes a job dismantling companies, that's who. If this is pushed, I'd bet a dollar to a donut that it gets traction if it's placed alongside the other stuff and is shown to be a trend in his approach to normally emotional things.

but yeh, there's also a part of me that is doing it tongue in cheek.

Also, I don't want time to make people forget, as it often does in election cycles (the public has short memories), that Mitt is a callous ass that fired people for a living and enjoyed it. I'm sure your side is hoping time will make people forget it enough that it's not a primary part of their decision when it's time to pull the lever.

I don't know about supporting any particular politician, but I will DEFINITELY think twice about reading anything with Bercovici's byline on it ever again. The guy gets paid for turning in gimmicky stuff a sophomore writing class instructor would mark c-, ffs. Too bad the much-diminished Forbes is not the only place such crap passes for "work".

it's interesting that by reading the above comments one can conclude that anywhere from all to none of us among myself, lethal and dr. smooth actually read the article I linked.
