Not sure I agree, but if true it would have meant a very different storyline today. And it's an interesting argument which of them would be stronger vs. Obama in the general.

Here is my logic, Virginia has become home to the most radical of the right. The tidewater area and DC suburbs have moderated things a bit, but heading toward the piedmont in western loudoun and south is all extreme right wing of the Santorum ilk. We have two religiously active universities in Patrick Henry (ironic) and Liberty that are thriving. This is sort of ground zero in a perceived war between secularism and religiosity, or as "they" put it between wrong and right. .

You forgot Regent. Huge player on the state level, especially the law school.

FDR couldn't win in Oklahoma today. I can't name a Democrat who realistically could. But this Republican campaign has been an almost unmitigated disaster and with the economy showing real improvement that the public is noticing, Obama is a strong favorite for re-election.

But that's okay, the Republicans thought they were going to beat Bill Clinton in 1996. That worked out well - Bob Dole only sacrificed his career.

“I love him, man, I really do,” said Neill Franklin, executive director of Law Enforcement Against Prohibition, a group of current and former law enforcement officials who oppose the drug war. “He’s singing my song.”

their's weirdly tone-deaf, like Mitt, and there's endearingly tone-deaf, like Frothy

wouldn't you try to suggest there were at least a few people turning their attention to the people playing the guitars & waving the signs, rather than a straggle of for-all-intents-and-purposes-unoccupied cars zooming indifferently by them?

Sam "Joe the Plumber" Weazelbacher, happy to have his face on TV, any TV, thanks "Mr. O'Donnell" for having him on the show, while telling Larry he's opposed to the auto bailout, which basically every 3rd voter in "his" district (which he doesn't live in) can thank for their jobs

Derrick Bell was a protege of sorts of the noted socialist radical and Eisenhower & Nixon cabinet member William Rogers (do your g-damned homework, Hannity, you mouthbreathing C-student)

Nate Silver's jobs growth magic number for an Obama reelection is 150,000 a month. February's was almost 150% of that.

Singer/sign waver is dumb as a stump. She is swinging a sign with metal stakes sticking out of it. She is lucky she still has two eyes. Cute and stupid, that is how that whole campaign wants their women.

I assumed that there were more. Is that where Bob got his shingle? I don't care enough to look it up. The actions of the two colleges I mentioned sicken me. They are overtly political, making the church and state thing a one way street. They give kids off the school for campaigning. It speak poorly of my faith to have these oppressive drones going door to door promoting ideals that often are twinged with hate. Young ladies dressed cute talking about how we need to protect our families from homosexuals (vote Dick Black baby).

I've never even heard of Patrick Henry.

Liberty has been prominent for some time, Regent gained prominence in the past 10 years from their law school. I was much more familiar with Pat Robertson's Regent than Patrick Henry and everyone knows Falwell's Liberty.

Dressed cute or not, I would, without question, close the door in their pretty faces. What we really need protection from is intolerance, unless it is forced upon me against my religious beliefs.

It's in Purcellville, VA. It is kind of new. Maybe 10 years old. Just appalling.
