So it looks like I'm getting 4 of the 5 things I was hoping to get next year in my job.

1) They hired my wife full time
2) I got one of the apartments in the new building. It's smaller than my present apartment, but much nicer and it's in the same building I teach. I can just pop down to my classroom to work if the baby is crying. And the daycare is a 5 minute walk from the front door.
3) I wanted the department head position, but the guy who has been here 13 years (4 times longer than anyone else in the science dept) decided at the last minute to apply. He told me they said I had the job if he didn't take it, so it's a little disappointing, but I really just wanted it for experience and so I would only have 4 classes (2 preps) and wouldn't have to commute between campuses, which brings us to #4 and #5:
4) No commute! I didn't want to have to commute because it makes eating lunch difficult. It wasn't bad this year because it was sunny for 7 straight weeks in the fall, but walking down and eating a sandwich on the walk every day would have been a bummer most years.
5) They gave me only 4 classes with the 2 preps and I will do a study hall or something for my 5th class. That means I can stay in my classroom and get stuff done instead of walking back and forth for classes, dinner, etc.

So I guess I really got 4.5 out of 5 since I don't have to teach the 5th class with a 3rd prep.

Also, this will give me time to start an Ecology Club. My plan is to have the kids learn scuba in the fall as part of the club and then do trips to cool scuba places around the world for spring break and spring cultural trips. Some of the trips will include working with an organization that helps profs with research so the kids will learn stuff and get great experience. The trips will be free for me, so beaches and scuba diving at no cost. I win.

sorry for the long post. I'm a little manic (and happy) at the moment.

It's almost scary how polite and pleasant Chic fil A employees are. It's like the anti-Wendy's. If only they could get rid of all the screaming children.

I can never remember if being "behind the 8 ball" is good or bad. I feel like it means bad but if you're behind the 8 ball aren't you about to win if you sink the shot?

It means the ball you need to hit is cut off by the 8 ball. It's bad.

Funny thing is, my rudest and crudest friend used to work at Chik-fil-A. (Granite Run Mall one in the '90s.)

Funnier thing is, there was a crazy old lady who came in every day for soup, and if he was there she would ONLY deal with him.

So, I'm thirsty all the time recently, yet I drink probably 5 or more 16-oz cups of water every day at work, and more in the evenings. I've cut my caffeine intake back by about 50% in roughly the same time frame, but if anything, that would help me stay *more* hydrated, right?

Anybody have an explanation for this that isn't diabeetus?
