On-line Algonquin Round Table (AKA Random Thoughts)

If renting a tux is $140 these days, everyone should just go ahead a buy one. It will pay for itself pretty quickly. And if someone gets uptight about everyone matching, tell them to go to hell. Or just have everyone rent matching bow ties and cummerbunds. Whoever said groomsmen should all match exactly anyway? I mean, in the 70s, people wore powder blue tuxedos, and they looked absolutely idiotic. The world, and the wedding pictures, would be much better if everyone had just gone ahead and bought a classic tux and worn that. The only downside is that for this to really work, you have to stay the same size for a long time.

Thanks guys. I was actually suprised he even asked me to be in his wedding, I don't like his wife-to-be and he knows it and she knows it. My wife absolutely hates her, so this wedding is pretty much the end of the friendship anyway. We used to be real good friends, but since he's gotten with this chick we haven't hung out really at all. I hadn't seen him in two years when he asked me to be in the wedding. I was going along with it to see if maybe things changed and his wife to be was less of a cunt and maybe we could be friends again, but it appears she's still a cunt and has now made him one as well.

As for drinking vast amounts of booze, the rehersal dinner is at his mom's house and the wedding/reception is at a fairly ghetto joint, so I wouldn't be suprised if it was a cash bar. The food choices on the invite were hot dogs or pizza.

I have a drink plan already in place for this wedding on Friday. Starting the reception off with a Bud Lite and two shots of Soco and Lime, or perhaps Jameson. Then I'm going with 7 and 7's or vodka cranberries. Obviously, shots will be sprinkled in there throughout.

Would it really be a douche move to blow this off? Normally, especially this late in the game, I'd say no way. But it's a close call.

THAT would have been the true mark of a ghetto wedding. I kind of wish it was true as well, actually.

It certainly doesn't appear that any feelings will be hurt. Nobody really likes each other.

The wedding I'm in weekend after next is in the Hamptons and the parents of the groom are paying for a house that all the groomsmen are staying in

I'm pretty excited about it except for the going to Long Island part

Yeah, I really feel the same way. I'm getting close to just saying "fuck it". Pretty much all of my friends from back in the day have turned their back on him over this chick, and now he just hangs out with all of her dumbass friends.

what woody said, again

in fact, ignore woody's earlier recommendations - they involve too much active commitment

pretty much just don't bother to show up

It offends me that he'd make a big deal about this. Is the reasoning (lame as it might be) that he's worried about "what if it doesn't fit"? It's unreasonable but understandable.

But if it's for any other reason, ANY other reason, and he sticks to his guns on this, you should blow off the wedding. Do NOT give in on this. Do NOT.
