my best friend's getting married Friday night and I'm nervous as hell. can't imagine what kind of wreck i'll be tomorrow night. it's the first wedding i've been in. his fiancee is great. i'm a little afraid i'm going to do something horrible and ruin everything. probably the biggest "stage fright" i've ever gotten and it's not even about me.

Imagine if Mike Schmidt was the Phillies manager. And had won six World Series as a player. And three as manager. And he and the Uruguayan Cliff Lee both wore the number seven. There you go.

Yeah I wouldn't stress too much about it. Harpua and I have been in three weddings together as groomsmen, including Werthless's (he was a groomsman in the other two). It's not really all that tricky if you're not the best man. Werthless's wedding was the first one, and he's probably my best friend in the world, non family division, but I don't recall any nerves leading up to the wedding. We took him to Chipotle for his last meal as a free man. Also played a lot of drinking games in his honor at my apartment after ceremony. It was a good weekend.

The only really rough part is paying to rent the tux.

also, this is more minor but i was pretty set on going $150 for the gift since i'm in the wedding and it's my best friend and i've known the bride for years and my friend talked me down to $100 and to review i searched back to the wedding gift discussions here and it seems i should probably go $150. while that's not really an issue i have no idea what the presentation should be here. cash/check/where do i get a card/what the hell, do they even make cards for this thing/what am i doing

I'm not the person to go to for real life advice, but I'd vote cash (you won't regret giving a little more than you should) and a Hallmark type wedding card with a personal note they'd appreciate or at the least a "So proud to be able to share your special day with you. Wishing you all the best, Barry" type thing.

People who have gotten married and cast judgement on their close friends probably have good stories about this.

That sounds good to me. I'll probably personalize the inscription a little bit more, but that all seems right to me at least. I had an idea for a more personal gift but I couldn't track down what I was looking for. Probably just as well.

No one give me anymore advice or I'll get confused and I'll be back at square one.

I'd probably write a check over cash since they'll be getting a lot of checks and they'll probably deposit it all at once and they can always misplace or lose cash during the whole wedding, especially if they're immediately leaving for the honeymoon. And I'd go $150. What's $50 bucks really? And he's your best friend.

if they're going on honeymoon after the wedding the cash is great. doesn't really matter either way, though.

Agreed. Take it easy, Barry. Being in a wedding is about the most non-complicated thing you'll ever do. God forbid anyone asks you to be the best man. You might have a nervous breakdown. Smile for the pictures. Limit assgrabbing of bride. Drink excessively. Profit.
I know what you're asking yourself and the answer is yes. I have a nick name for my penis. Its called the Octagon, but I also nick named my testes - my left one is James Westfall and my right one is Doctor Kenneth Noisewater.
