one of the times was after a phillies game. there was an epic storm that flooded the on ramp to 95 south. my car is old and i guess water seeped into the casings for the lights and they just exploded when i turned them on. i drove all the way home with fog lights and four ways. about three blocks from my house a cop was walking across the street and yelled at me to pull over. it is by far one of the most stressful drives i have ever taken because it was hard to get out of the city with all the flooding and i had taken three high school kids with me to the game so i was pretty worried about their lives having to drive so far without lights.

Is there an accepted signal to tell the car behind you their headlights are off? The other night, I was on Route 1 when a car switched lanes and ended up behind me, but all I saw was the car's silhouette. Tried to think of a way to notify the driver, but I couldn't think of anything and the light turned green.

I hope he or she didn't die. :(

if your lights aren't automatic switch them on and off repeatedly. they usually get the hint.

I was taught flashing your high beams is the universally accepted signal for something being wrong. Generally regarding lights being on issues or a cop sitting up ahead.

Turns out if it is dark out, turning your high beams on and off is something a person behind you can see as well.

Sure they MIGHT see it, but will they? A car putting on a light show you WILL see.

I think lots missed the point that the car was BEHIND him.

Anywhoo, QUICK TIP: Be nice to a cop, even when they decide to give you a ticket. Got an "inside tip" that for pretty much any violation, a copy can write you up for "disregard of traffic signals", which is anything from a speed limit sign, double yellow line, stop sign, etc. The difference between this generic violation and the specific violation (speeding, blowing a stop sign, etc.) is that the generic carries no points. So no increase in insurance.

I did at first, which is what mcgraw made fun of me for. Though I think the point holds that high beam flashing is a good attention getter. I dunno.

I take enormous pleasure in building a decent wood fire in the hearth. Doubly so when you wake up to goddam snow in the morning.

Monkeywiz keeps thinking that he can stoke up the fire to make his imaginary steam train go faster.

I haven't been in four years. It's more the admonishing than the cleaning I'm avoiding.

I think I'm in that same time frame. And it's the same reason.
