I have to get a crown for a root canal I did last year. Anyone know how much those things run?

A lot, at least under my plan. Not a cent is covered for that. But that could just be my plan. I know my mom, a teacher, had a root canal last year and the whole thing cost her like 15 bucks.

I'm pretty sure crowns are covered at 50% for me with pre-authorization. The root canal was covered at 75% and cost me like 300. I never got the tooth crowned, so the new dentist told me I should. I forgot to ask how much it costs. I guess I can just call them up and ask.

i paid to have 1 wisdom tooth taken out. cost me like 1500$ for it to be removed. the pain was so bad that i couldn't wait for a free appt. i also ended up with dry socket and cried myself to sleep for 2 weeks straight

See, this is the stuff that freaks me out. About half the people who have had their wisdom teeth out have horror stories about the pain and the other half say it was no big deal and they were up and around the next day.

A guy I work with (pretty sure he has the same plan as me) went in and they told him some insane amount to remove the tooth. He just got the dentist to give him an Rx for vicodin and called it a day.

the actual process was painless. i was awake for all of it(just one tooth). i was just part of the unlucky few that got dry socket. i borrowed some percs from my dad and just struggled through it.

There's a nerve that runs through your lower jaw, and passes reasonably close to the roots of the wisdom teeth. If the dentist damages that nerve while removing your teeth, you can permanently lose sensation in your lower jaw and part of your tongue.

I never got my wisdom teeth out.

Yeah but my pal says if they get impacted then they can get infected and if that infection reaches your bloodstream it's goodnight forever

I got really lucky. Mine somehow aligned perfectly, didn't have to have them out.

WINNING.

One of mine is certainly impacted. If I stick a toothpick in there and pull it out, the toothpick smells like death. Doesn't hurt, though

When I got my wisdom teeth out, I was in a decent amount of pain for the first day. The next day, I was in a little bit of pain. The third day, I was back to normal.

when I got my wisdom teeth taken out I was wheeled into the recovery room after surgery (was completely knocked out) Although I have no recollection of this I was told that I came to early (I was apparently left alone for 2-3 minutes) and stood up and found some latex gloves and blew then up into a few balloons and was playing volleyball by myself until the nurse came in to find me and put me back down onto the table.

About once or twice a year one of them hurts like a bitch for a few days, but then goes away. I doubt I have cavities. I had them as a kid and I seem to remember that they hurt, so I think I'd know if I had one.

You may not need to get the wisdom teeth out--as I mentioned, sometimes crud gets caught up in there and you just need to get it out.

I think dentists like taking out wisdom teeth because it's like a mortgage payment for them. I suspect many wisdom teeth that are removed aren't removed for any good medical reason. I had a dentist who tried to tell me I should have mine removed. I didn't go back to that dentist either.

So, yeah, if you want to stay my dentist, you do two things--have your hygienist tell me how impressed she is with my mouth, and shut the fuck up about taking out my wisdom teeth.

I actually met him last night, at a launch party for his Ben & Jerry's flavor. Ben & Jerry were there serving ice cream. I almost asked them why they'd give him his own flavor but I think I would have been fired.

Various people on the Twitter, Facebook and other message boards noting that they're surprised at how good his Sheen bit was. He did that history of rap thing with Timberlake that was quality. I dunno, I thought he was a talentless hack when he was on SNL. And from there he did Fever Pitch and that movie with Queen Latifah. That he's capable of producing high quality shit on his show is kind of a shocker to me.
