That's one way of putting it

I'm not often the top poster of the week in number of posts, but always in the top 10. Always in the top 5 monthly. Joe Morgan marvels at my consistency.

No

Not to mention the idea that cliff lee would even think of leaving somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 million on the table.

Why am I pointing out the obvious? I don't know. I just wish Cliff Lee would go away.

Things that had to happen for the Phillies to get Cliff Lee

1. Lee had to leave ALOT money on the table
2. The Phillies had to nuke their previous budget and contract philosophy

We had no reason to believe either of those things would happen. So laugh at me all you want goober.

ill give you credit, you were really wrong the whole time, and you stuck by being really wrong the whole time.

also, point 2 is wrong. I showed earlier in the summer how it was entirely feasible for them to run a payroll of $155-160M in 2011 and still be right in line with how they'd been increasing payroll. No one really took it seriously then. Maybe they should have.

Also, at 7:49 I said

This makes so much sense.

Blanton + Ibanez is like $22M in 2011.

Move both, receive nothing but salary relief.

Lee signs at 6/132 with the Phillies. Leaves $20M on the table, but over 6 years, that's only $3.5M per.

This is a net zero expenditure.

So we'd have enough money to give Magglio Ordonez a 2/17 deal, maybe $7 in 2011 and then $10M in 2012.

Oswalt comes off the books after 2011, Lee takes his place.

Its perfect.

Lee's deal was 5/120, with the 12.5M buyout, so 6/132.5

Plus other players won't be jealous of Lee's payday because they've seen his wife
