Unguided Musings (y'know: Random Thoughts)

I know they get a ton of apps but I think that sounds reasonable.

Are you using online job searches? If so, you're looking at something like a 3 to 5 in a hundred shot at finding a job (and that estimate, from the NYT, was back in 2003 before all this unemployment mess). Are there any associations or other networking type things you could tap?

I check careerbuilder and those once in a while, but it's mostly through various Library Associations and listservs. Still, 5 in a hundred sounds about right

They'd seen the resume before so it wasn't that they saw something they didn't like. Been two weeks now since I spoke with them.

The other place, a political strategy firm in NYC, got back to me 3 weeks after I emailed them. It's a fairly large firm, so I was surprised when it was one of the founders that contacted me. Had an email exchange and told him I'd be willing to do an unpaid internship if it could lead to employment. He said it could. So I was expecting to get an interview or an offer, but since then no contact and he hasn't returned my email. That's been about a month now.

I've been at this since late November, not too long, but this really sucks. I've probably got 80-100 apps and letters out there right now.

These are not the best of times.
Yes, but in a double utley you can put your utley on top they other guy's utley, and you're the winner. (Swish)

Hospitals are pretty good with keeping in touch with all applicants. I don't know why, but they always seem to respond, and quickly. Not that that does housh any good.

Use indeed, it scours them all. WSJ ranked CareerBuilder as the worst, FWIW. Their logic was that Monster, HotJobs, etc were started and concieved and have goals to be good job boards. CareerBuilder is managed to be something for Tribune/Knight Ridder papers to make up for lost revenue on classifieds. Or something.

I wonder how realistic it is for me to move to Switzerland.

6:00 am client meeting/web conference on Monday morning. Thank you India and your 10.5 hour time difference. Oh and it's not even for my real job, it's for school. So it's costing me a lot of money to have this privilege
you sure do seem to have a lot of time on your hands to be on this forum? Do you have a job? Are you a shut-in?

I don't know if you need it all the way out to Jerseyhoya's house, but it sure would be nice to get from the NJ Turnpike to the Ben Franklin Bridge without going through 20 miles of Cherry Hell.

Anyone ever have sinus surgery? Mrs. Vulture did today. She's home now, resting comfortably. But she's got all this stuff in her nose.

when 3 of your best friends that live near you are married it kinda makes having fun on a friday night a bit difficult.

There might be a better sensory experience than having happy hour beers on an empty stomach and then housing a Lorezeno's slice with garlic and hot sauce, but if so I haven't experienced it
