Lunchmeats, Magic Tricks, And Other Random Thoughts

I've spent the last half hour trying to figure out what smells like trash.

After checking the obvious places, like the trash, I have determined that I smell like trash.

Great. Located in Mt. Laurel, NJ which is a 40-50 minute drive from Delco, PA.

Phone call #2: So we looked at your car [that probably wouldn't sell for $100], it's going to cost $1,100 to fix everything. Probably won't be finished by early afternoon Monday.

Rent a car, deduct it on your taxes.

lethal, i used my car a lot for work, but only get compensated for gas. I think I read I can deduct miles from my taxes. Is that right? Are there separate forms or is that part of TurboTax/etc

For work-related travel, the federal rate is 55 cents/mile for 2009. It's down to 50 cents for 2010. But I'm not sure how the compensation for gas would affect that (there might be some MPG computations or something).

anyway, lethal should know, he's the tax guy and I'm just a mediocre litigator who logged a couple hundred (reimburseable!) miles today.

You can either deduct per mile or actual expenses, not both.

So what you can do is calculate the rest of your actual car expenses and deduct those as unreimbursed business expenses or you can log your miles (you need to keep an accurate logbook of miles traveled and what day), multiply that by the federal per mile rate, then reduce by the amount that you've been reimbursed (for gas) and deduct that total.

Previously I was referring to the job seeking expenses deduction for Crashburn. That's a different one.

I've come to realize over the past few weeks that individual income tax is the area that I really enjoy even though my practice involves approximately 1% individual income tax and 99% corporate and international tax.

I have no idea how to make that switch and not take a salary decrease though.

One of the best parts about having a chicken salad is thinking you've eaten all the chicken, only to shift some of the greens and find a few big pieces still hiding out in the weeds. GLORIOUS.

I'm going to rant here. You know what makes me freaking crazy? The fact that most of the professionals I know who live in New Jersey DON'T GET TO WORK IN NEW JERSEY. In fact, I can think of exactly one, and that includes my neighbors. We're all working in Wilmington and Philly while people from Delaware and PA are coming here. WHAT THE FUCK There's your razzin frazzin solution to global fucking warmingslashcooling and traffic and accidents and every damn thing else.

I'm going to start a messageboard for employers and employees to start swapping jobs.

So that 2 weeks spent putting music on my iTunes was a complete waste. My dad just gave me his old computer so now I have to go back and reedit all of the music I put on.

On the plus side, now I have 2 GB of RAM rather than 512 MB.

Ah... the good old days...

I even found the photoshop I did of Reyes and Wright that made someone quit the board because it hurt their feelings (so much that they couldn't tell me about it). The irony was that I photoshopped their heads onto a gay advocacy book that chronicled the poor treatment and portrayal of gays in America. Get it? I was taking two guys who aren't gay and making them look gay on the cover of a book about the bad portrayal of gays while in the process calling them gay which is apparently bad and makes one wonder how sensitive another could be toward gays if they think it's an insult to be compared to someone who's gay I mean it's a compliment to be accused of being a valedictorian and valedictorians don't get upset if you make valedictorian jokes but it's at the same time okay to be gay but not accuse someone of being gay I mean it's not like trying to compliment someone by calling them a nigger cause lets face it its never ever a compliment to be called a nigger no way no how not by anyone to anyone else but lets face it after all I was calling them gay because of the gay pictures they were posing for but mainly its funny to call them gay because it further upsets macho line-bearded Mets fans but really one can't do evil in order to do good and lets face it I wasn't really doing either but man, it smarted.

I don't know if it's funny or smart or scary that googling the term "prostrate cancer" actually brings up photos and stuff about prostate cancer.
