Jobs bills would be nice.

Apparently, this was more important.

Wasn't Boehner asking the same question ad nausem for the past two years?

That was a fine waste of time.

Next!

It wasn't a waste of time; everyone is on record now.

unlike when the bill was passed?

Yes?

because we didn't know where people stood when legislation was already proposed and passed.

This was a joke and you know it.

I think it was kind of interesting to see which Dems voted against the original bill but against repeal. We learned some good stuff today.

This isn't an original thought, but it's pretty stunning how far and consistently the goalposts moved on healthcare from the early '70s to now. Each Democratic attempt at reform wasn't just less liberal than the previous one--it was less liberal than the previous Republican alternative, including what passed last year compared to Dole's bill from '93 or so.

Now that the Republicans essentially have admitted they don't care about the uninsured--even if it happens we can reduce the deficit by covering them--if this law is undone, less likely by repeal than judicial ruling or de-funding, this is it for that issue. Good thing there aren't any negative externalities to having tens of millions of uninsured people.

Either those Democrats realized the errors of their ways and now see the value of the reforms, or they cynically are for it now that the public tide is turning on the bill, or they were always for it but cynically voted against it previously because they didn't want to lose their election. the last two suck and are likely.

Independence Hall???

True story: A few years back I was dating this girl from FLA (West Palm, lived on Trump's block!) who was going to school at 'Nova. Some of her friends came up and wanted to see the city. So I drove them allllllll around. Good neighborhoods, the worst neighborhoods, all the historic sites. (They were awestruck at the houses that were "all stuck together" ). At the end of the night, I noticed my wallet was missing. So we backtracked to the few places where we got out of the car. My wallet was sitting on the curb outside of independence hall (I laid down on the ground to get an upward picture of them with Independence Hall in the background). This was like 3 hours after we had been there. I didn't get shot or stabbed either time.

I didn't hear it, but I wonder if he bothered to mention that he was dropped by the CBS affiliate here. Doubt it.

That's an awesome story.

This is the best piece of evidence yet that Beck is out of his mind. Beck runs a successful radio program. 1210 decided to drop him, I suppose partly for ratings reasons but probably for some other reasons as well. The point is, his name is big enough, and the show has enough of a national following, that I'd bet some other station in Philly would eventually have picked Beck up.

Not anymore, however. And while I doubt it was previously unsafe for Beck to walk around Independence Hall, I'll bet now it is.

the waffle iron?

another regional pol gets attention for his health care vote:

the pick of Runyan suggests he has every reason to join the inevitable class-action-type action of former NFL players seeking compensation for their multiple concussions

Thought about posting this in the civil war thread, but it seemed more appropriate here. The problem isn't Southerners, it's white people.

I forget who voiced confidence in the future of their health & retirement benefits as a public-sector employee, and I forget where they did it, but if you're out there, this bit of news will not help you sleep comfortably:

Path Is Sought for States to Escape Debt Burdens

Beyond their short-term budget gaps, some states have deep structural problems, like insolvent pension funds, that are diverting money from essential public services like education and health care. Some members of Congress fear that it is just a matter of time before a state seeks a bailout, say bankruptcy lawyers who have been consulted by Congressional aides.

Bankruptcy could permit a state to alter its contractual promises to retirees, which are often protected by state constitutions, and it could provide an alternative to a no-strings bailout.
