I bought the hubby a laptop from Dell for Christmas. The shipping notification said I needed to sign for it OR sign the waiver after the attemped delivery and they would leave it the next day. The tracking says it was delivered this morning. But under exception it says "Delivered to address other than recipient". Does that mean they left it with a neighbor? I don't even know any of my neighbors. Ugh.

Why is hitting snooze so appealing

Because snooze sounds quaint and brings to mind a delightful nap under an old tree in the midst of a pastoral scene in a sun dappled grove. Whereas if they had called it the 'Why didn't you just set your alarm 15 minutes later?' button it would remind you how with one simple push you are being simultaneously lazy, unproductive, and inefficient. That being said, it is one of the greatest inventions mankind has ever made, after microwaveable milkshakes.

I keep thinking today is Wednesday, but it's only Tuesday. Normally that would be a bad thing, but I have a lot to do this week, plus Syracuse-Michigan State is on tonight, so I'm oddly happy about this confusion.

I went home at lunch to try and find my laptop. FedEx let a neighbor sign for it. So I go to the house that FedEx says they left it at, see their cars are in the driveway and knock on the door. Their dogs go nuts inside barking their heads off. I wait a couple minutes. Still no answer and the dogs keep barking. Finally I decide I'll go in my house take care of a few things and go back. I go back to the house and walk up to the door. The dogs are gone. These dogs bark every single day I come home, even when I just pull in our driveway. They were just barking like crazy and all of a sudden they've gone silent? I knocked loudly 3 more times before heading back to work. No answer.

I know they're home. I know they have my laptop. What the heck am I supposed to do? FedEx says, just keep trying.

the dogs have gone quiet because they're concentrating hard on tying the christmas ribbon round your box, because that's hard to do when all you have is paws?

Seriously Marion, this situation smells bad for you. I'm very sorry.

Could you safely torch their building without risking your own home?
Yes, but in a double utley you can put your utley on top they other guy's utley, and you're the winner. (Swish)

I called Dell and they said that FedEx is not authorized to leave it with a neighbor. They're sending me out a new one. Let's just hope FedEx doesn't give it to the neighbor again.

On a related note, after telling the situation to some people at work here's the scenario I've put together...

When we moved in in August, an old lady came from that house and introduced herself. She said she owned the house with her sister who just died 3 weeks prior. She told us she lived there with her son and her sisters son(s). They were trying to decide if they should sell the house or not.

We never see anyone from that house, except at night. The sons (late 20's I'd guess), are always out at night with friends. About a month ago, a POD was delivered to their driveway. We hear them throw things in it...again, only at night.

I haven't seen the lady since August. I'm now convinced that the guys have killed her and thrown her in the POD. And to top it off, stole my laptop.

That's pretty decent of Dell to do considering it was FedEx's screwup.

I'm sure in that scenario, FedEx is going to end up paying Dell and the delivery guy is going to catch hell. I rhymed.

One of my co-workers not only misuses the term "ironic", she also pronounces it "heronic".

Yeah, basically Dell said they'll file a claim with FedEx but they're not going to make me wait (obviously thay can see the exception clear as anything on the tracking).

This is what I would have done from the start at my old job. However, getting a package delivered to the Naval Academy is not that easy. Packages go missing here all the time.

There's surely some kind of defense and indemnification agreement here, and where it's crystal clear who's at fault...

Call Dexter.

I hope you get your computer from them soon, that stinks. I've always wondered why fedex can leave a package with your neighbor without your consent, seems like a bad idea.
