I am proofing one of those page turners where everyone gets a description by rote. I am reminded of alan moore's instructions to steve bisette when doing swamp thing. Allegedly he devoted whole paragraphs of detail about things bisette didn't have to draw (e.g. The back of a park bench facing away from the frame), so he knew better the exact character of what he was drawing.

I guess not every writer is alan Moore and steve bisette. This is one of many reasons why books are too long these days.

Why do so many people on Youtube who post copyrighted material write
"I DO NOT OWN THIS MATERIAL AND DONT HAVE COPYRIGHTS TO IT"

I mean, do they think courts or record companies or whoever are going to say "Well he stole but at least he was honest about it!!!"

I know it's just because Youtubers are idiots, but this is a special kind of idiocy.

I don't even know what the $#@! TCN is.

It's not the 24 hour suspension bridge network -- that's Span-SPAN.

I had a great weekend at the shore with my college roommates and am drinking some Evan Williams and watching Bourne Supremacy. Life is good.

i feel the same way. i don't care if people want to get them, but the whole concept seems primative to me.

meant to come back to this.

It's actually the primitive thing that I kind of like about them. Like a trace of humanity linking us to ancient ancestors. But anyway, the reasons I don't like them:

1.) They never look good. Never. Some look better than others. But they all look crappy because human skin does not serve as a suitable landscape for art. Either that or tattoo "artists" are just all terrible.

2.) I'm not even sure I believe in lifelong monogamy or unconditional love (though every year my parents' successful marriage puts a dent in my internal argument). I don't believe in absolutes. So the idea of putting something on my body forever--it'd be like carving the Constitution on the surface of the moon without an amendment process. I hate the idea of thinking I'm going to live by anything for the rest of my life, because i'd hate to let my stubbornness keep me from doing or believing the right thing. The world changes every day, and we need to change with it. My view of tattoos is just a very tangible version of that philosophy.

3.) It's possible this opinion is an extension of my crippling self-consciousness and solipsism and that I begrudge others for not sharing those issues.

4.) It's also possible I haven't come up with an idea I've deemed cool enough and that I'm jealous others believe so strongly in their own ideas of what's cool.

Spent the last two nights in the attic at the beach in non air conditioning. Sleeping in a well air conditioned room tonight is going to feel fantastic.
