I took her to the vet tonight and the vet is recommending that the lump be removed and then biopsied, to the tune of nearly $500. We can come up with the money for that, but the problem is that if it's cancer, there's no way we can afford any kind of meaningful treatment (and I'm not sure I would subject an animal to that even if money weren't an issue). So all the biopsy would do is tell us whether it's cancer, which means we would know that she probably won't be with us much longer, or it's some sort of benign growth in which case we will have wasted the money on having it removed.

We're trying to see if the vet can do a biopsy without removing the lump first. It's right at the surface so getting a needle in it shouldn't be a problem. Then at least we would know what we're dealing with. Maybe if it turns out to be benign we could be convinced it should be removed anyway, but I can't see the point in paying to have a malignant tumor removed (thus subjecting the cat to a lot of distress) when the cancer will probably end up killing her anyway.

I hate having to be so heartless about this. She's a nice cat.

Yup, it's cancer. The needle biopsy was a possibility, but not cheap in and of itself and wouldn't have gotten us anywhere as far as treatment anyway. So my wife decided she couldn't in good conscience just do nothing about the lump at all, and she agreed to have the vet remove it, which was done last Friday. It was large and deep, and the biopsy result came back today. Basically a very agressive form of breast cancer, which probably has already spread. I think I already found another lump on her so we're thinking she's going to show signs of being sick soon.

i'm sorry to hear that. i had to put down both of my rottweilers last year because of bone cancer. they were both functioning but obviously in pain. so we did the humane thing and put them down. man was that the hardest process i've ever had to deal with.

Is it really that freaking difficult to put size information and washing instructions on on one label? Or to put them some place anywhere near each other?

Of course then I wouldn't blow $$$ on things that I don't see until I get home are dry %&&* clean *&^ only.

Keep your eyes open for the four horsemen

Bristol Palin is hitting the speakers' circuit and will command between $15,000 and $30,000 for each appearance, Palin family attorney Thomas Van Flein said Monday.

....

He said he believes she's interested in expanding her message beyond teen pregnancy to include her experiences on the campaign trail and in the media spotlight; her parenting approach; and her outlook on life.

You've got to be fucking kidding me. Good for her, I'm just embarrassed that there are alleged hominids out there willing to shell out this type of cash to hear about her outlook on life.

went there in 2000 to see the Phils. Big home run by Ron Gant to tie it after Sosa put the Cubs ahead late. Then some anonymous bullpen guy wild pitched in the winning run for the Cubs. I was with friendly Cubs fans and the Phillies really sucked, but it still stung.

We were right behind the Phils' pen on a nice summer night. Good times at the reggae club across the street.

my buddy wants to go out after the ASB but that's going to be tough domestically.
