So we have our first class after the incident and nothing. It's like mommy and daddy don't talk anymore so don't mention the awkwardness even though the kids haven't eaten in days.

A few Miami recs:
-Do South Beach/Nikki Beach for a day or whatever since it's obligatory, but head out to Key Biscayne for a day at the beach if you can. Either go to the state park at the end or go to Crandon Park. Crandon Park is beautiful, there are huge ass iguanas all over the place, and you might sit there for a few hours without having to hear another voice. Awesome place to take a six pack and relax.

-Go to a legit Cuban Cafe: ie, not one in the heart of South Beach. Not saying it's the greatest food in the world, it's not, or that the service is going to be friendly for a gringo, it won't, but you'll get good food at a great price and get the real experience. If you like coffee order a colada. I ask them to go lighter on the sugar, but try a regular one first. Delicious and it's got the kick of espresso.

-Bars to go to: Waxy O'Connors-they've got a crazy happy hour during the week (M-R, maybe Friday as well, I'm not sure). 8am-7pm, 2 for 1 drafts. Works out to 3.50 for a pint of Guinness. I'm planning on doing a few Guinness for breakfast sometime next week once classes are over and I have a day off (or hope to). Zeke's for 200+ beers and maybe I'll be working. The Abbey on Alton Road for some high octane microbrews.

-Walk Lincoln Road if you want to see the free freak show.

-Remember, no open container laws in Miami Beach. If it's in a plastic cup you're legal. Take advantage of that. Walks to the grocery store go smoother with a beer in hand.

I had my little tear once I got back down here, but you'll all be sad to hear that I've lost my momentum. Actually, my going home last week might have resulted in some sort of relationship. Never did the long distance thing, but I'm thinking about giving it a try despite having a good idea on how that will end up.

The best Cuban (it's actually half Cuban and half Colombian) restaurant in the tri-state area has to be Tierra Columbiana on North 5th St in Philly.

Make sure you tip the dudes who watch your car at least $10 though before going in.

They have a night-club upstairs if you're into Latin music as well.

I can't see Phight On drinking beer anyway. Maybe vodka straight out of the bottle.

Nah I've come to the conclusion I just can't drink anymore. I get out of control. I can drink half a beer or something and that's it. My wife would leave me if I started drinking again.

But vodka straight up or Stoli-O and Sprite were my drinks of choice. I used to drink a lot of cheap beer when I was younger though (Natty-Light does you right!).

My dog is at an all time low. If it were my decision, he'd probably already be put down, but it's not, so whatever. He's already been wearing diapers inside the house for months because he can't control his bladder. So that was working for a while because if he really had to pee, he'd go to the door to be let out, and we'd change his doggy diaper twice a day: once in the morning, once when we're going to bed. We put up the couch cushions so he couldn't sit on them when we weren't around.

But last week, we caught him actively lifting his leg inside the house a couple times. My grandmother was here for Thanksgiving and he almost did it right next to her. So now, my parents' idea is putting him in his old kennel from when he was a puppy overnight and when we're out during the day.

So as I lay in bed trying to sleep, all I hear are the sounds of my 13-year-old fox terrier laying in a kennel that reeks of his own piss, wearing a diaper, and yelping in desperation for someone to let him out. It's the saddest fucking existence I could ever imagine for my goddamn dog, and I fucking hate it. He's deaf, so he can't even respond to his own goddamned name anymore. He's confused all the time. He's a pain in the ass to take care of. He's forgotten almost everything he's ever learned. And yet there he lies in a fucking cage in my living room.

Wow, man. Very sad. I was going through a very similar situation while living with my parents a few years ago. Abby, our 13 year old English Springer Spaniel, had gone deaf and her back legs had degenerative arthritis which rendered them more or less useless. Last time I was home was April, and it had gotten to the point where my siblings and I were talking about an "intervention" with our parents to try to convince them to put her down. We chickened out, but they finally decided to do it in September.

Anyways... hang in there.
Another day, another box of stolen pens.

Thanks. I don't know what it'd take for me to have an "intervention" but I'm sure I'd chicken out anyway. They love him as much as I do. It makes me angry more than sad, though. It's not fair to him. He's better than this.

Dude's escaped from our backyard more times than any of us could count. He's like Houdini. But he somehow always found safety. One time, though, he was gone for a couple days and of course didn't have his tag with our phone number on it. We live right by the city boundary to MontCo, so we eventually found him at their animal control center. But when he came back home, he was really distant. It was like he'd been to prison or something. And it sucks even more now, it's like he's in prison in his own house. And he doesn't get excited anymore, except, bizarrely, when you fill up his water bowl. I read that when dogs get really old, they drink excess amounts of water. When I get home from work and let him out of the cage, he runs to his water bowl first and drinks the entire thing, then jumps around until I fill it up again. It's weird.

Yeah Barry I don't want to sound like a dick but I think it's time to put him out of his misery. Sometimes we get selfish in a way because they really become part of the family but as hard as it will be it's just not fair to him to see him losing his hearing, unable to to control his bowel movements, etc... Your family has enjoyed 12 or 13 great years with him but it's time. And it fucking sucks.

We have an 8 year old English Bulldog and they typically don't have a long life span (8-10 years). She's fine at the moment but we know she can start to go down hill next week for all we know. We both get welled up if we even talk about it but we also know we're not going to let her suffer.

I know people who have spent thousands of dollars putting their dog through chemo only to see them die 6 months later. I'm sorry but I just think that's selfish and unfair.
