World $#@! Random Thoughts

Postby Wizlah » Sat Oct 31, 2009 17:46:01

caught a break with this latest proofing job. it's long (yay, more billable hours!), it's impeccably copy-edited (yay, easier job!) and it's all about counter-cultural london. There's gay people and coffee and surrealists all over the gaff. I feel tres bohemian. Probably stink of cheap tobacco by the end of it.

Include music (lots and lots of Animal Collective) blasting from the cubicles/offices and you just described my work place.

So, besides Crimson's suggestion, what the $#@! am I supposed to do? What if I had found a cat? Would I be stuck with it because the shelter is full? Doesn't make sense to me.

Thank you both for the advice and information. It actually worked out on its own. My parents said they would take her and came out and got her this afternoon.

I'd actually be happy to stay in Seattle too. Just been weighing the options in case something works out. There were 12 openings all over the country for this program. I put in my resume for four of them and have only heard back from the hiring manager of the SD and NYC spots.

mickbayne, how is Seattle? I'm thinking about moving west when I get all my teaching credentials. FWIW, I don't mind rain.

dude, just so you know, Merrymead Farms was an apocalyptic scene last weekend. People were parking 1/4 mile away and walking. Gridlock traffic. I'm probably too late with this news, but good luck, and godspeed

Not too late yet. You're the best

Did you end up going? I think the weather today might have made it not too bad.

I live a couple miles from Merrymead. We went a few weeks ago and it was busy but not Thunderdome.

Too late for the Phils, unfortunately. Maybe we get to hear Cole's press conference again?

Thanks. I like to live a mostly sedentary lifestyle (aka I'm lazy) so I hope that people there aren't nuts about outdoorsy activities (more references to hiking than I'd prefer in that thread). I was eying the northwest because of the rain so it would make me look less lazy for wanting to lounge around all the time.

Any idea how the school districts are around there? I'll probably do some heavy research when the time comes, but I figured I'd ask in case you knew offhand.

I have no clue about the school districts. And I'm a pretty lazy guy myself, so I think you'd be okay in that regard. There are a lot of fanatical outdoorsy people, but they're generally not very "in your face" about it.

Crash -- near as I can tell (no kids myself but I know some teachers and parents and stuff) the school districts are about as varied as can be. Lots of foo-foo rich areas but also many of varied income levels. I'd guess there's something for everyone and we're even not too far from rural areas.

How tough it is to get a job is another matter. Bad economy--budget cuts and all that jive. The Puget Sound area isn't as bad as many places but still -- Boeing and Weyerhauser (sp) have taken big hits and it isn't peaches and cream.

This area is pretty tolerant of commies and atheists though so there's that. ; ;
Teams lie, sometimes for good reasons, sometimes for bad. They do it to get an advantage while they look at the trade market or just because they can

Thanks for the information. I do need to find an area that is tolerant of my kind. It's terrible here in the 'burbs where no one gives a rat's ass. 8-)

All I'm really looking for with the schools is a low probability of getting stabbed.
