World $#@! Random Thoughts

Postby lethal » Mon Nov 02, 2009 11:12:58

I love the subway when it runs right. I hate it when it takes me an hour to make my normal 20 minute commute because of a switch problem, making tons of random stops for minutes at a time between stops and involves me walking 10 extra blocks in this cold. Also, I hate that the weather went from like 70 degrees to 50 in 2 days.

I like when someone in Philly says, "I wish we had a subway."

I do wish the stops had cooler names like in London.

Piccadilly Circus, Knightsbridge, Waterloo...

Most of Philly's are just named after numbered streets and not said in an awesome British accent every time you hear them.

Have you been? Go there and it will be the most pleasant subway riding experience you will ever have.

This was my sincere plan. Then I got sick Saturday night, probably from sitting out there in the rain, and I've been sober as a deacon* for the last two days.

*I'm not really sure what a deacon is, but I think that's the expression. Rev?

So my wife flew all the way to England only to get diagnosed with the flu the first day she's there and quarantined in her hotel room until she has to leave
you sure do seem to have a lot of time on your hands to be on this forum? Do you have a job? Are you a shut-in?

I obviously don't want the season to be over yet, and I haven't even been going all crazy with the drinking this post-season (except for last Wednesday and that time Barry dragged me into the gutter) but it will be nice to get on with my life when this is all over.

Based on all these pictures on my facebook, guys getting in touch with their feminine side is becoming as big a part of Halloween as girls acting all slutty.

I had done a really good job of breaking up the drinking 4-5 nights a week pattern I got into in DC after moving home, but the playoffs have seen that return. I have like 4 books I want to read piled up. Tonight is the last Monday night I will imbibe on for a while. Like Housh said I don't want it to be over, but it'll be nice when it is in a lot of ways.

Not to get all maudlin, but... my sense has been that this playoff run is probably the end, for me, of 20 years of hideously protracted post-adolescence. My wife and I are hoping that we'll be parents, or about to become parents, a year or so from now. That means, at least for awhile, no more freedom to spend hours a day, close to every day, thinking about/writing about/obsessing over baseball, getting drunk and yelling at the TV and/or computer, spending hundreds of bucks for a stray World Series ticket, belting myself in for the emotional rollercoaster ride the Phillies always deliver, etc. It'll likely never be the "most important thing" again, or at least not until around when Domonic Brown and Kyle Drabek are grizzled old vets bringing their careers to a close.

So it would be nice to win this fucking Series and go out on top.
