That reminded me of something I told someone about Bill 'n' Monica... had he not denied it at first, the sanctimonious right would have been all "zOMG!!! He has no shame!".

(geez, I made two posts today using the word "sanctimonious"... that's gotta be a record or something)

Sanford's emails

To be sure, he violated his marriage vows. And (more importantly given his place in public life), he's been a consistently sanctimonious prick about others' infidelities and gay marriage. Still, on a purely human level, I read these and I can't help feeling somewhat sorry for the guy.

Still, he probably should resign and try to save his marriage, if he wants that to happen.

Sanford:
I looked to where I often look for advice and counsel, and in I Corinthians 13 it simply says that, “ Love is patient and kind, love is not jealous or boastful, it is not arrogant or rude, Love does not insist on its own way, it is not irritable or resentful, it does not rejoice in the wrong, but rejoices in the right, Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things and endures all things”

Too bad he didn't look to Exodus 20:14

That Corinthians quote is a staple at weddings. Not so much the Exodus...

(just thought the album title was a bit apropos to the subject... IIRC, they also had an album titled "Fabulous Disaster", which may also be apropos...)

Ha. I just had to go over to YouTube and listen to Toxic Waltz and Low Rider.

I'd say Kirk Hammett made a pretty good decision leaving those guys for Metallica. Maybe Sanford should consult Kirk for any future decision making. Jerseyhoya - is there any way this guy survives the remainder of his term?

hate blogger (aren't they all) + "arsenal" (a whole 200 rounds for his legally owned weapons!) + hollow point bullets (which are legal to own!)
you sure do seem to have a lot of time on your hands to be on this forum? Do you have a job? Are you a shut-in?

Dunno. He only has another year. It's probably one of those things that if he wants to ride it out and he repays any state money that might have been spent on the trips he could, but it hardly seems worth it at this point.

Jesus Christ, the two of them sound like high school sophomores. I don't see any reason to feel sorry for him, unless you mean it must be tough being a plain idiot trying to run an entire state without letting on how dumb you are.

Sullivan sums up the problem:

Watching how this government can do nothing to reform healthcare, nothing to end the wars and occupations that drain the coffers, nothing to tackle entitlements even as the country teeters toward complete insolvency, nothing to reform a broken immigration system ... even after a president is elected with a clear mandate and a Congressional majority in both Houses: well, we know why America is fucked, don't we?

I think people need to read this again. The comments are amazing:

I don't condone urging violence against elected officials, at least not yet; but at the rate things are going, that may be the only choice to save this country from the left. Thankfully our forefathers adopted the 1st and 2nd amendmants

Why? (I mean, why can't we fix all these problems, and why are we unable to overcome the "massively powerful private interests or ideological campaigns based in cynicism and the pursuit of power.")

I think we're fucked because we rely on a structurally flawed system to try to solve society's problems.

OK, two rants in one topic:
Sen.John Eichelberger, R-Pa., is making headlines after a gay rights advocacy group claims he made some controversial comments.

The Keystone Progress claims Eichelberger called same-sex couples "dysfunctional" and "we're allowing them to exist."

Eichelberger debated Sen. Daylin Leach, D-Pa., on WHYY radio Friday.

Both senators have dueling bills on same-sex marriage in the State Legislature.

Leach wants to amend the Pennsylvania ban on same sex marriage to give same sex couples full and equal rights. Eichelberger says his bill will define marriage between a man and a woman.

"There's no reason to encourage that kind of behavior in Pennsylvania," Eichelberger said. "That's my whole point. We don't have any reason to change the way we do business here. There is no evidence that this will be good for our society."

OK, first of all there is no 'claim'. It's in a freaking 50 minute podcast, permanently saved on WHYY.org. This is just horrible reporting at worst, pandering malarky at best. I heard the entire thing, and Eichelberg most definitely says all of the above, plus much more. He has a definite stance that gay is less than.
Second:
Eichelberger issued this statement to WJACTV.com: "This group is a politically active group that goes around the country targeting people that are involved in this issue. If this is an example of how they conduct themselves then it's difficult to continue dialogue and discussion, if people intentionally misportray the truth."

Sir, it's on tape in a 50 minute discussion. There was nothing out of context, nothing misportayed. You are trying to swim against the tide, and doing so pretty lazily.

Obama Warns Against Trade Penalties in Energy Bil

“At a time when the economy worldwide is still deep in recession and we’ve seen a significant drop in global trade, I think we have to be very careful about sending any protectionist signals out there,” Mr. Obama said.

He added, “I think there may be other ways of doing it than with a tariff approach.”

+1 for the Prez. I was just stewing on this while reading some of the reactions to the bill and wondering how strong he'd come out against this provision.
