I would guess it's because when computer keyboards were designed everyone was working in a UNIX command line interface where the slash is a directory separator and therefore used quite frequently.

That layout predates computers, actually.

The QWERTY layout was designed intentionally to slow typists down, because the old mechanical typewriters had a tendency to bind up when too many keys are pressed close together.

I have this awful cough. Whenever I lay down I can barely breathe I start coughing so much. I am gonna try sleeping on the couch and propping my head up because the past 1.5 hours trying to fall asleep in my bed have not worked out.

If it's still made, get some Bronkaid tablets. I had a cough/cold like that years ago and that did the trick (the breathing whilst laying down thing).
