TD- I've never had Indian food but desperately want to try it. Do you have any recommendations in the Philly area? I love spicy food- the spicier the better. However as I've mentioned a few times before, my wife has stomach problems (she has to get botox injections into her stomach muscle so it will open into her small intestine) and I want to be sure there will be something she will be able to eat with no problems. I'm pretty sure she has tried curry but didn't like it.

I though Iselin was Paki territory. Edison was where the Indians lived. Live and learn.

And this makes me think of Bridget Jones and the Turkey Curry Buffet.

if you still have the drumstick, beat him with it. If someone already ate that, use the neck.

phight, the restaurant that we went to today is PHENOMENAL. My parents make the 1.5 hour trip with pleasure just to eat there (and bring back food, too). We don't really like going out for Indian food too much other than that because my mom is an amazing cook herself.

I will say you should definitely try Chicken Tikka Masala, Tandoori Chicken, Reshmi Kabab, chicken butter masala. And for your wife, I'll say Saag Paneer (sometimes called Palak Paneer), and Aloo Gobi. Most of the food is generally mild-ish unless you ask 'em to make it spicy specifically.

i'll add navrattan korma, if you're looking for a rich and heavy vegetable dish. it is quite excellent at the place i go to.

Oh. I'm replying to a Steagles post. Um. OK.

I cook indian food pretty frequently and would love to hear any recipes if you have the time and inclination at some point (no big deal if you don't .... typing out recipes can be a pain). Most of what I cook came from a roommate of mine who worked at an indian restaurant, though I've also gotten stuff from cookbooks (yeah for Madhur Jaffrey!). I can make some stuff pretty well, though it always seems a little better in a restaurant, if for no other reason then they let their stuff cook longer, allowing all the flavors of the spices to come out. I'm usually in a rush or too impatient because it smells too good. Probably my best dishes are shrimp or chicken vindaloo, the spicier the better, and saag paneer, but I'm always experimenting (with mixed results).

I'd particularly like to hear about any side dishes, as I usually cook the main dish and just serve it with rice and naan. I didn't pay enough attention to my old roommate when he did the side things, and instead concentrated on learning the main entrees. We would cook (usually indian or thai) all day and have 10-15 people over, so there was a lot going on. I miss State College and Zeno's sometimes. :(

I heard about this on Wednesday and all I could think of was that scene in Tropic Thunder.
