not that biden was all that impressive, but i thought she was fairly weak. she repeated the same things no matter what the question was.

I'm watching this too. He turned it around--said that Biden closed strongly, which I think is right.
Watching her there with her baby, my strong dislike is receding. I just hope she goes home and does well by her family--not to Washington.

However, her gay rights answer was awful and IMO Biden's gay rights answer was his strongest of the night.
Actually, Biden's response to the desire to not debate the causes of global warming was spot on--how can you begin to address the problem if you don't understand the cause? I mean, it's like a fat person saying let's not debate why I'm fat, let's do something about it. I'll start drinking diet soda with my Supersize Fries and bacon cheeseburger.
Joe Biden doesn't understand the cause. He said, "man is responsible for global warming." You won't get a single academic to say that. Al Gore won't say that. If Biden did some research he'd know that most scientists agree that the methane from livestock gas has more carbon emissions than man.methane - which is also released from landfills, coal mines and leaking gas pipes - is 23 times more effective than carbon dioxide at trapping heat in the atmosphere.
Fortunately people other than Joe are dealing with global warming. Both Sarah Palin and Joe Biden are right. The world is warming. The most experts say about man's role is, however, that man is likely one of the contributors to global warming. If we take Joe's word for it that man is responsible we won't address all of the problems.
I thought both Biden and Palin did very well. I don't think Biden gains much by doing well. Palin could regain the confidence of a lot of people who've jumped off the bandwagon.
Things that surprised me:
1. Joe Biden invoking the car accident that killed his wife and injured his children.
2. Sarah Palin stealing the best lines from past debates ("There you go again." "You were for it before you were against it.") and assuming that no one would notice.
3. Joe Biden saying that the United States needs to change the education system and fundamentals of Pakistan, then saying the US has a right to enter any country that harbors terrorists and that nations can forfeit their sovereignty, and then saying that he disagreed with the Bush Doctrine of preemptively entering countries.
4. Sarah Palin getting away with not giving a weakness.

I agree with you for the most part (and haven't really heard much talk of this since right after the pick; Joe Sixpack doesn't read Sullivan), but if it were true, it'd be very relevant.

By the way, I've definitely read the inferences on the baby in other places, but it's possible those were just people linking to sully.
