Apparently Obama wants to up the small business tax by like 50% or something?

Bumping it up at all is completely unjustifiable. But that much? That cant be right.

Either way christ.

I'm not sure that's exactly accurate. He wants to raise the corporate income tax, which applies to all businesses. But his economic plan on his website states that he wants to "eliminate all capital gains taxes on start-up and small businesses to encourage innovation and job creation." But capital gains taxes are different from income taxes, so I don't know what the net effect would be. I'm not sure he's been very specific on this, but I'd be interested if someone knew otherwise.

EDIT: Other source: http://www.latimes.com/news/printeditio ... full.story

"McCain also has proposed a sharp reduction in corporate taxes. He would pare the two highest corporate tax brackets, 34% and 35%, down to 25%....

Under Obama's plan, the highest corporate tax tier would hold at 35% -- a nod to Wall Street but higher than McCain's slashed rate. Obama would raise the highest rate on dividends and capital gains from 15% to 20%."

EDIT2: If you are a small business owner who files as an individual rate payer, you will have higher taxes if you make over $250,000.

I must've missed it - was out golfing today. Unless he wore a Michigan sweatshirt on the PSU campus, I think Barack and I are still okay.

What I'm realizing about the speech last night (and I wrote about here for those interested) is that it put us right back in the 2004/Rove/"Nixonland" politics of cultural conflict. One manifestation of that (and I'll admit I kicked in for Obama today) is fundraising:

The downside to big television ratings: An Obama aide confirms to Ben Smith that Sen. Barack Obama has raised about $8 million from more than 130,000 donors since Gov. Sarah Palin's speech last night -- and is on pace to raise $10 million by the time McCain reaches the stage tonight.

Update: The Republican National Committee tells Jonathan Martin that they raised "more than $1 million" since Palin's speech.

I assume this was a joke.

So the obvious McCain voters would be:

Lax
Jersey Hoya
Mountain
Vox
Mrs. Vox
Tom Pie
William C
Gr

Who else?

I assume people may vote that don't often post either. From the tone of these threads you'd almost think it was a Republican majority here.

I want to be clear, I will most likely vote for Obama, but that's not because I'm an Obamite or believe he repersents me. I'm holding my nose and voting lesser of evils.

This isnt the least bit surprising to me. I think there is a fairly significant chunk of democrats/indpendents who would have been perfectly fine with a McCain/Lieberman or McCain/Pawlenty or McCain/[Insert Socially Moderate Republican here] ticket winning the election. I think that is a credit to McCain, and I likely consider myself in that group.

The prospect of a pro-guns, pro-life, pro-creationist, unqualified Vice-President to a guy who is 72 years old with a history of cancer will do as much or more to mobilize the dems than at will to help the reps.
I know what you're asking yourself and the answer is yes. I have a nick name for my penis. Its called the Octagon, but I also nick named my testes - my left one is James Westfall and my right one is Doctor Kenneth Noisewater.

Just got back from seeing Obama speak in Lancaster. I've never been to something like it before...It was a lot of fun. I actually enjoyed politics for about 40 minutes.

Obama has raised just as much during the same time period- I guess that the speech was indeed polarizing.
