The power in the basement is on, which is where all of our internet stuff is hooked up, so I can at least dick around on here. But our good living room TV is out, while our old basement one works. So basically tonight I've learned that we need batteries in our flashlight and rediscovered that 27 inch TVs suck.

Do you have two meters? Is the meter running now? You might be getting free electricity.

Nah, the meter will be running as long as juice is flowing. What it is is that pole transformers break down a single leg of the 13.3KV primary power into two legs of 120V single phase power, which flows into residences in two separate wires making 240V (and there's a third neutral wire). So either the transformer's hosed, or there's a break in one of the legs of 120V power on the poles.

If there's absolutely something you want running, and you know your way around a breaker box, every other row in the box will be alive. Just move the circuit from a 'dead' row to a live row and it will be good to go. No 240V appliances (stoves, dryers, large A/C, etc.) can be used on a single leg, though.

Well, it depends on what you mean by "channel".

DirectTV

Dish Network

The HD channel count can be misleading because it shows all the regional sports networks while, IIRC, you'll only get the ones in your region. Also, you'd only get the premium HDs if you subscribe to that premium package (i.e., HBO). It seems for both the dishes, the HD package you get depends on the basic package you have (i.e., if you have the middle package, you can get the middle HD package).

I know that when we moved last november, DirectTV had more HD all the time "channels" -- like SciFi HD, History Channel HD, etc. But Comcast counts their OnDemand stuff as HD channels.

After having Tivo before we moved, and OnDemand now, I would rather have a high capacity HD Tivo than OnDemand. But I think Vox likes OnDemand for the movies.

If ExactTarget were a person, it would be a filthy little sorority girl that gave lots of BJs because she was mad at her father. So bright appealing from the outside; so dark and broken on the inside

Cheap deli non French's yellow mustard is disgusting. It's like they run it through a pickle first.
