Starters aren't used to coming into jams. The Phils bullpen is well versed at coming in during the middle of an Eaton meltdown.
Then why not the beginning of the third? The way I see it, you bring a guy like him in, you look for him to pitch the rest of the damn game. What's the point in resting him at all? If you lose, he'll be resting all October.
Look at how he's pitching now -
They only used him because it's his throw day. What he just did is close to equivalent to a bullpen session, and it wouldn't preclude him from going Monday if there's a play-in game.
Not that I don't agree with you--I'm actually 50/50 on it, probably leaning towards your POV because I frankly don't care, aside from the human element, if Kyle Lohse as an FA-to-be gets hurt--but that's how the team is likely thinking about it.
