Atrocious at-bat by Helms. Zeppo would have walked him.

Helms has just been a mess this year. He probably needs to play a little more to stay sharp. He was either starting a lot -- which he isn't capable of doing -- or he was buried on the bench. He's just had an awful, Eaton like season this year.

So in other words, he sucks no matter what you do with him.

Lohse in for the Phils, batting in the 9 hole. I guess he's only pitching one inning.

Real question: Why bring in Lohse now, but not back in the second?

I applaud Charlie pulling Eaton when he did, but still -

I'd love for Rico Brogna to come and work with Howard at not sucking at the defense over the off-season.

Starters aren't used to coming into jams. The Phils bullpen is well versed at coming in during the middle of an Eaton meltdown.

Then why not the beginning of the third? The way I see it, you bring a guy like him in, you look for him to pitch the rest of the damn game. What's the point in resting him at all? If you lose, he'll be resting all October.

Look at how he's pitching now -

Almost.

I think he can be effective when used sometimes in roles that suit his strengths. He hit well for a couple of years in a part time role. The Phils brought him in to be a full time guy and that didn't work at all. Gillick did have a backup plan with Dobbs as the lefty hitter and Nunez playing the glove man.

But the initial premise -- Helms as an every day 3Bman, was pretty badly flawed in my view.

I was wondering if marketing people were scrambling around trying to deal with this Phillies thing.

I believe they said that this is Lohse's throw day, so he can pitch an inning or two at most. He'd be the starter in Monday's playoff game, if nec.? Not sure what the deal is exactly
you sure do seem to have a lot of time on your hands to be on this forum? Do you have a job? Are you a shut-in?

Because he's only going 1 today. Today is his throw day between starts, so they are having him just do his throwing in the game. So they used him in this inning since the pitchers spot is coming up. Now if he could or does go more then 1, then yes, it was stupid.
