i did read that if the player waives their nmc then they don't have to be protected. i assume umberger would do so since he'll be an ufa anyway.

Umberger is going to be bought out.

For a team picking 18th in the first round, every mock draft for the Flyers says either Julian Gauthier or Max Jones. (ok maybe I've seen like 4 but 2 said Gauthier and 2 said Max Jones).

Wonder if they try to move up for one of the better forwards. Columbus, Edmonton and a few others want to trade down

You could trade Hartnell right now for a late round draft pick and not eat salary. You are correct, the #1 point of the trade was salary but Hextall gambled that Hartnell was cooked and RJ might have a little life left. Was the exact opposite.

And they really missed what hartnell brought, especially this season.

The trade was defensible at the time. Of course it's easy to lambaste it in hindsight, but few predicted Hartnell's resurgence (though many called RJ out as being done).
