all i can do is lol. i remember on his radio show howie talking about how he would send videotapes of his scouting reports to every team in the league when he was still an undergrad. the guy clearly "knows football," and to suggest otherwise --especially to such an extreme degree-- makes me think roob has an axe to grind.

also i've always thought roob is a shitty writer with not great sources but for some reason he's considered the salisbury of the eagles

McLane said in his article this morning that depending on your perception the 7 years from HS HC to NFL HC is either an indication of a fast riser or a sign of inexperience. Personally I have no issue with it, it's not like he was coaching HS last year he was the oc for a team that has current won 11 straight and lost their best offensive player early in that stretch.

Much like his offense, it's going to be all or nothing. It works out great with Kaep and they win right away and don't have a drop off in year two/three, or he's gone.

With, once again, one unsourced quote that doesn't support the rest of the terrible article. How about some details about what Howie has done wrong here from a personnel standpoint? Lurie says he has an excellent track record there and I haven't seen any rebuttal. You don't think Banner or Riddick or Kelly or whomever wouldn't leak that stuff if it was there? Good enough to just say "he doesn't belong here," though, I guess.

i don't care at all about the football/not a football guy stuff. maybe that matters to the people in the building, but how the hell do we know.

i'm more curious as to why howie can't have any shortcomings. chip clearly had his pros/cons, can't the same be true for roseman? maybe he's great at the cap and player evaluations, but doesn't listen to other opinions or communicate effectively. marynowitz got a lot of praise for his evaluation capabilities, yet he and howie butted heads. it would appear that it's not the first time something like that happened.

But that's my point -- how could we know? There's consensus that he's excellent at the business side, and Lurie said he has a good track record on personnel with no rebuttal I'm aware of.

Yet, most of the city hates the guy and accepts at face value that he doesn't belong around football men and that he's a weasel. It's ridiculous.

we dont know. we know lurie gave him credit for good drafts and absolved him of bad ones. that's really all we know. i've turned on this and think he probably should've been fired along with everyone else but since he wasn't, i hope he's as good as lurie thinks.

That's the silver lining in all of this, if you hate or even are wary of Howie -- if he controls everything now (for the first time here) he'll be on a real short leash.

Howie has flaws because he is human. Basically all of the anti-Howie articles have a litany of unnamed sources and make the kind of nonsensical slights that appeal to knuckledraggers/WIP/anti-semites. There has been a parade of personnel guys coming and going but Eagles drafts have been kinda meh at best so take that with a grain of salt. Chip firing/coaching search has been demoralizing but it's not like Chip comes out looking like some martyr sacrificed to an insecure suit pretending to be a "football man." He comes off as a huge dick that no one wanted to deal with.

edit: Agreeing with the sentiment that Howie stinks doesn't make you a "knuckledraggers/WIP/anti-semites," but I don't understand how a reasonable person could argue there isn't a comical amount of conjecture/personal attacks in those articles.

IMO Howie probably sucks and Lurie is inching closer to Jerry/Snider than I'm comfortable with.

What's sad is many people here bought into the narrative that Roseman is the worst human being ever and nobody wants to work with him.

Sure, best case is Howie is great. I have a hard time discrediting every report about his poor standing with others, the results, and the fact that 5 people who worked with or under Howie on personnel have been fired since he was GM or a higher title.

I think this is a pretty reasonable take.
