Start out for 3 nights in Honolulu, then go to the big island, on the Kona side, for 5 nights. Found a house for $75/night there, and it's near a good snorkeling area

Almost exactly like my honeymoon. Go get some coffee. Lay out on the beach at night and look at the stars, it's unreal. And have some sex.

Honolulu = NYC with Palm Trees

After spending two weeks in Maui and Kauai, I was kind of shocked by Honolulu. I never would have imagined that there are 8 or 10 lane super-highways in Hawaii. Going to the Pearl Harbor memorial/museum is simply incredible.

If you do any excursions, don't pay the brochure price. There are plenty of places on all of the islands called "activity centers" (or something like that) that work the same way as Priceline or any of the other travel sites. Basically they look for people to fill in empty seats of already scheduled tours. So for example, let's say the brochure price of a boat tour to a really good snorkeling spot is $55 per person, you will only pay ~$35 pp by using the activity center.

I can't believe it's taken me two hours to fill out a kindergarten application for VoxJr. It's not like it's essay questions -- but still, distance in miles from your home (nearest intersection) to school?

You need to weed out the riff-raff, pacino. The Voxes have already committed to seeing their offspring down the gilded path of gated community privilege.

Don't you hate that when your paging through pages and pages of search hits, and you finally see one that looks like it might be what you're looking for, you always get a 404 error on that one??

You actually do have to "apply", or register, even for public school. I had to go through bunch of hoops two years ago to try and get VoxJr enrolled in the township's preschool, but he had to be evaluated by the child study team to determine if he had enough special needs. It was automatic acceptance if he did, or waitlist if he didn't. They said he didn't, after all that work (and they were wrong, but that's another story). So then I found a private preschool, which didn't have a whole application process.

In our new area, all the "preschools" are private, either daycare facilities or run by churches -- there was one Montessori school, but they never returned my messages. Because the Camden diocese is consolidating schools due to low enrollment, there is actually a lot of competition for spots. VoxJr only got his preschool spot because someone dropped out.

So, if you're looking enroll your kid's in private school, or anywhere where there's competition for spots -- the schools usually start the process in Jan or Feb before the next school year starts.

Two kids waking me up before sunrise -- not a good recipe for starting the day off right.

Would it kill them to put a few wind shelters on these freezing cold Broad Street bus stops?

Even in my hick town, you need to get your kid signed up for pre-school in the winter or early spring before you start if you really want a pre-school program and not just day care.

And kindergarten enrollment does involve filling out lots of forms.

It was 33 degrees this morning.

That's freaking cold for Florida.

Herrs Ripples and French Onion Dip is addictive and someone really needs to take the NYE leftovers away from me.

that and cheese/pepperoni and crackers are my favorite snack foods. We had neither for NYE because it was just me and the wife and I would have eaten all of it.
