oops....
ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick spoke to someone familiar with the Phillies’ GM search that disputed the notion that Picollo has become the front-runner in the search (links to Twitter). Rather, he hears that owner John Middleton’s top preference is former Red Sox GM Ben Cherington. However, Crasnick reminds that Cherington has previously indicated that he does not want to dive right back into another GM opportunity. Crasnick also reported over the weekend (Twitter link) that Beinfest has been informed that he is no longer in the running for the position.

Maybe he just overperformed in the minors. He was a 20th round pick after all.

Thought he was a 20th round pick because they didn't know if they would be able to sign him away from Miami for football.

Phillies have hired Rick Kranitz as bullpen coach and John McLaren as catching coach.

Hitting coach Steve Henderson and pitching coach Bob McClure have agreed to contracts for 2016 season.

Larry Bowa and Juan Samuel have both been asked back.
Do you think April is too early for a Roger Dorn night?

McLaren had brief stints as manager but most recently was a scout with the As. hmm

Kranitz was fired as Brewers pitching coach a few weeks ago but was Coach of the Year about 10 years ago with the Marlins when their rotation had D-Train, Josh Johnson, AnEEbal, Nolasco and Scott Olsen (remember that douche?)

Hoping McLaren is just keeping the seat warm for Chooch.

what is the bullpen coach's job description? Is he like the assistant pitching coach and he answers the phone in the bullpen and monitors their warmups to say when they are ready? Seems like a good gig.

I think he makes sure there's Gatorade, chewing tobacco and sunflower seeds in the bullpen.

It's as if we already have a GM.

Succeed.

He was pitching coach in KC for 6 years, and they sucked every year. He's been gone 4, and they've been to the playoffs twice, and are about to go to the Series.
He was pitching coach in Boston for about 8 months. They came in last, had a scandal in which someone leaked clubhouse stuff to the media, and it's widely speculated that it was him. They won the Series the next year.
He's been pitching coach here for 2 years. We've come in last and last, and one of our greatest players ever bitched him out on the field mid-game. Those finishes put McClure at 6 last place finishes in 9 years, with 3 4th-place out of 5 in the other years. The other teams saw great success after he left - maybe that'll work for us.

If we were going to point at something McClure does well, what would that be?

He's had some great arms in the bullpen to work with, and hasn't been able to find much success. But maybe he's good at other things.
