icomfort has saved my back. if you are willing to drop some bucks. just buy at president's day or memorial day. you spend 6-8 hours a night in these things. i dont think mattresses are overpriced at all as long as you buy on a 'sale' (i.e. the real price).

This was the benefit of getting one at a store. I originally got a pillowtop that murdered my back and I swapped out for a cheaper non-pillow top one. Cost me about 50 bucks more even for a cheaper one but it was well worth it.

even that's not the real price. Gotta find a place like USA Mattress. I think that's the name we went. Delivery was free and it was $580 i think for our awesome mattress listed at $2500 in Sleepy's

I went to a local place here that didn't overcharge me.

It's not what they cost the. To make, it's the utility of the mattress that makes it worth it. I guess if you're going to argue they should simply be marketed cheaper, ok, but the amount of time spent in them does not make it overpriced for one to spend money on it. It's worth your money to pay more for a better one.

if you paid like $1k or more then you overpaid. if it was more convenient for you than searching for somewhere like i mentioned, that's fine

i guess we're talking about two different things. i'm talking about how people allocate funds in relation to the utility they get out of an action or item. complaining about the price of a mattress in relation to what else is spent and how much time you spend in a mattress is really futile. get a good price, but they're only a 'scam' because of the materials involved, not with the actual utility we get out of them.

Is your opinion that mattresses aren't overpriced, or that they should be overpriced, or that people shouldn't care that they're overpriced?

essentially the last. we get a lot of use of them relative to what they cost.

There are a lot of durable goods that we buy that, although they have a decent markup from the manufacturer, do not suffer the same retail markups as mattresses.
