Today's a great day.

Also feel confident that even if those three names don't end up being available/interested, they're going outside the organization for the new hire.

Agreed. He's held the line on moving young guys, had a nice draft last year, and recouped some nice picks in deals this year.

Only question I have is how involved he was in the disastrous MacDonald extension, but that feels much more like a Homer move than something Hextall would've pushed hard for.

I don't do backflips for anything. Nothing, really. So if they do get him I have to break out something special. I am aware chances are slim.

Wonder if they want to go down the road of someone who has been here before. I know Nolan's had a few go-rounds in Buffalo, same for Maurice with the Canes. Wonder if Snider/Hextall are willing to try that. Hitchcock could be available. And I'm big on Stevens as previously mentioned.

have read babcock wants roster control and if that's the case, definitely not a fit here.

Hexy live on CSN right now

Says he didn't make the decision until last night after evaluating things for several more days and let Berube know this morning
Says he wants the best coach, whether or not they have previous ties to the Flyers
Says it's unlikely Berube returns to the organization in a different role
Says he didn't ask any of the players for feedback on Berube because players are usually biased for/against the coach

Berube was in the organization for 18 years as either a player, coach or assistant coach, Phantoms stuff included. Had no idea. Damn.

Meh, the team still sucks. I didn't like Berube, but I'm not gonna act like a good coach makes this team a playoff team, let alone a contender for the cup.

I don't want any ex-Flyers for the new hire. Enough of the nepotism. McClellan would be my first choice. I like Babcock, but if you thought the passiveness under Berube was bad, wait til Babcock shows up. Not to mention, his system is about smart European players, which wouldn't really work here.
Piss off.

Yeah screw that guy. It's a shame his system only works with all those Europeans and not those back to back Canadian gold medal winners.

(And yes, I'm being a bit facetious here as that is a small sample size in terms of games and having talent helps, but he's a good coach.)

Babcock is 2 wins from having three Stanley Cups. He is fantastic
“I don’t coach losers, I only coach winners.” Mike Krzyzewski

Tom Brady bereft on the turf, it has literally been ripped from his grasp

Babcock is adaptable to personnel. The Wings transitioned without rebuilding and he made them a successful grind team their last year out West to get them into the playoffs. The offense went mia down the stretch this season and they get by on the system, puck possession, blocked shots, counter. When they were soaring in January, it was because of pure skill. The only thing is, if he came to Philly, he'd have to give Dan Cleary a job and put him on the first line. He's the smartest coach in hockey, probably a bit too loyal, but is finally able to let the grand rapids kids do their thing as established NHL'ers. I can see why he wants full control, Ken Holland can be very passive with the roster.
