2014-15 Flyers Season II: This looks worse than last year

He is the 24th highest contract for a defenseman in the league. There are 30 teams in the league, and he is the highest paid Flyers dman. He is paid like a #1 because he is the Flyers #1 now. He isn't paid like a superstar guy. Not every team can afford a big contract guy on defense.

There are only 10 guys in the range of 6.5-9 million range.

The TDL is absolutely the worst time for a good team to make a trade. They get bent over every time. It's nice that the bottom feeders have a chance to get even. They get rid of mediocre players for better compensation than they would at any other time. IMO, the Coyotes have done well in both shedding talent and money. The same for the Flyers with Coburn.

What a great trade and contract extension that was for McDonald!

You're creating some sort of narrative to fit your point, but it's just not right. Take a look at Tampa. Matt Carle is $5.5, Jason Garrison $4.6, Stralman is $4.5, Coburn falls right into that range. I mean is paying Streit $700,000 more than Garrison, Stralman, Coburn really making it seem like he's "paid like a #1?"

Exactly. That's how the Flyers got a young Coburn in the first place.

Well at the worst he is paid like a top pairing guy. He would be the highest paid defenseman on about 1/3rd of the teams in the NHL if he was traded to them.

The issue with Streit is it is a 35+ year contract, and he has 2 more years. Even if it is fair value, there is risk there for a 5.25 million cap hit.

I think Hextall holds on to him and hopes he retains his value to trade him next year or the following year.

I'd trade the guy in a second for sure, and I think he's generally affordable for most teams.

I'm sure it's not that big of a deal to just wait and see.

Although Ed had a good point. I didn't realize how many teams traded their pick already.

Scoracek talking about GudASS:

“He’s a gritty player and very tough to play against. Fans are gonna love him here. He’s a kind of player who is hard to play against.”

“He hits hard, he steps in, he fights. He’s strong as a bull. Other teams are afraid to play against him because when he hits, you’re gonna get hurt.

“I played with him in AAA back home and he was already tough. Played in junior. He wasn’t sure he’d make the NHL and when he did, I was very happy for him. He made it with his passion and style of play.”

$1.425M total for two years. Decent price for an end of the roster guy. Maybe Hexy can get White for similar money. He's played well since he got healthy.
