Yes. Some guys are too passive though.

Anyway, the data is overall. It's useful. But are there guys who are very successful being more aggressive? I think so. Further, there are at bats where it really pays to jump at a cookie early in the count.

Wait for a pitch you like and knock the shit out of it. So said Stan the Man. To me that is excellent advice. If it's the first or second pitch so be it.

Maybe not. But there is a lot of criticism of guys who swing early in the count. I'm offering an alternative view.

In some cases, your point is certainly true. They are the best hitters normally. I wish we had a few more guys like that. Hernandez, kind of surprisingly, is very good at it.

My only point is it's a good thing to hit a pitch in your wheelhouse, regardless of the count. Falling behind in the count reduces your chance of success also. Franco seems to be successful in this regard. But it's early yet.

It isn't easy. Baseball is a hard game. And Musial was a Hall of Famer. He also walked a lot, leading the league one season.

But his advice is still pretty good. Won't turn anyone into a Hall of Famer. But the theory works for some guys sometimes.

Umpires are calling pitches outside the strike zone strikes it looks like. That makes it even harder.

Oakland has outscored opponents 383-342, for a Pythagorean record of 49-40. Except they are 39-50. 10 games to the negative, after 89 games. Holy hell. That must BLOW for fans with a brain.

Really good article about how AJ Preller has destroyed the Padres in a matter of months

My brother said this not too long ago: why do owners always seem to go on spending sprees when they get the new GM? As opposed to allowing the previous GM who had built a decent infrastructure to then expand upon it?

That was really interesting and actually makes me feel better about the Phil's current situation.

It would take some kind of miracle for him to turn it around enough to be included at this point. I'm rooting for it, though!

I can't believe the clowns that were running this team thought it would be a good idea to host the AS game 22 years after the park opened
