Whoo-hoo-hoo, look who knows so much. It just so happens that your friend here is only MOSTLY dead. There's a big difference between mostly dead and all dead. Mostly dead is slightly alive.

Sox beat guys reporting rusney castillo's car is at Fenway. Looks like he'll be officially called up.

Seems like it's missing a Ryan Howard drawing with an empty speech bubble

How bout those taxes though. And how does the 2013 NL MVP still have paper statements? I haven't had them in 4 or 5 years

I like how the Philly.com article called the city wage tax, the jock tax. And said somehow that we impose it on out of town athletes that play here makes us a petty. If an out of town lawyer has a 5 day trial in Philly, he pays city wage tax on that income. Reporters are the worst. They literally understand things at a 4th grade level.

pretty sure every professional sports city has the jock tax. couple of player just sued Cleveland over it.

That stub has something called the "Pittsburgh Professional Athlete Fee" which works out to 1.16% of his gross pay for the entire 15 day period. I really can't figure out how that works out- the fee is supposed to be 3% of 'duty days' worked in the city, but they played no home games in that 15 day span. Hmmm, maybe it's just averaged over the whole season- so 1/2 of the total 162 game schedule (81 dates), plus maybe 45 spring days brings the total to about 207 days; ahh yes, that works out- 81 is about 1.17% of 207 days, so the total 'duty days' is probably 208 or 209 to get to the 1.16% figure, which is deducted from each check. However, I don't set Pittsburgh wage tax on there- supposed to be 1%. Hmmm. Maybe it's the 'continued on next stub' part.

The "jock tax" is meant to be applied to athletes/entertainers/etc. who work in facilities build with municipal funding, so it's outside of the city wage tax. Maybe the writer was just being dumb when he also referred to the PHL jock tax as "city wage tax"? Hmmm, nope- I just found that article; they're definitely referring to city wage tax. Not sure if PHL has a "professional athlete tax", like PGH, which can definitely be referred to as a 'jock tax'. However, this article implies that philadelphia does impose an athlete tax on top of the city wage tax, but the pay stub doesn't seem to bear that out (WE NEED PAGE 2 DAMMIT!)

Philadelphia city wage tax works out perfectly- 3.4915% of 4/15 of the gross (they played 4 in CBP during those 15 days).

I also just found the article on the Cleveland lawsuit- at issue was not the tax itself, but the computation method. Cleveland wanted (for the simplest example) to tax 1/16th of an NFL players salary when they played a game there (based on a 16 game season), instead of using the 'duty days' concept- counting training, practices, etc., as part of the overall structure, where they'd have to use a much smaller percentage (like maybe 1/150th) when computing.

Interesting stuff, Pacino, I'm glad they violated this dude's privacy to share it :-D

I thought the Cleveland issue was that those two guys didn't even make the trip there. Either way, was just pointing out that this type of tax is common and not unique to Philly.

that was the secondary issue -denoted by "being the second one listed in the article". :)

Actually regarding the not-in-the-city-on-game-day situation, i would think that was more an error on the part of the payroll department than cleveland. They should've only withheld Cleveland tax for the personnel who were in the city. But it's still a bit murky, because i've read elsewhere that cleveland requires the tax to be withheld from 'all players on the roster' on gameday.

Here's the article that talks about both cases; only one of which has an out-of-city tax levied to a player named Saturday. Oh, he's our shortstop!
