Dunno if this was posted yet...

"I come from making the All-Star team last year to platooning and playing every second or third day," Brown told The News Journal. "It's definitely different. I just wish I could be in there every day. I don't know if they've got a different plan or what. I know they want to see other guys, which is fine with me."

Brown said he doesn't know what else he needs to do win back his full-time job in left field. He was told coming into the season he would be the everyday guy in left field, which happened for three months until his struggles emerged and the outfield became more crowded with the signing of Grady Sizemore in June. Brown has said previously that he has a good relationship with Sandberg dating to their time together in the minor leagues.

When asked if he had talked to Sandberg about what he needs to do to play every day, Brown suggested Sandberg isn't the one making decisions about the Phillies' lineup.

"I don't necessarily think that it's up to Ryno, you know what I mean?" Brown said. "He's just the manager. It's whatever the guys up top [in the front office] have in store, what their plans are. We'll see."

Statistically, Brown is enduring his worst season since he was a 22-year-old rookie in 2010. He hasn't been able to recapture the success he found last year when he delivered career highs in every relevant category, including home runs (27), RBIs (83) and batting average (.272), as part of his first and thus far only All-Star season.

Brown, 26, believes the only difference between the hitter he was last year and the hitter he is this year has been a bad month in May when he hit .146 and a lack of consistent at-bats. Brown added that the decrease in his power numbers – eight home runs and a slugging percentage that is nearly .150 lower than last year – can also be linked to fewer reps at the plate.

As much as I'd like to see him gone, he has no value, and there's no point in releasing him. He'll be back next year, they'll give him another chance to be part of a platoon/bench spot, and that will be that.

Someone needs to sit him down and tell him that he sucks instead of letting him say and think things like that. How is he going to improve if he thinks he's doing ok?

he definitely would have hit like 20 more homers in those extra 50-100 plate appearances, so i kind of see his point

that said, it's a really bad look when neither the general manager, manager or entire professional team seems to have any idea what the "plan" is

Typical of the stuff that comes out of a Boras client when they want to be traded. It was just a matter of time. Sandberg should sit his butt for the rest of the season.

So (and this is a huge "if"), if Revere wins the batting title, does it strengthen the Phillies' resolve about keeping him or can we trick some other team into sending us some value for him?

Are we the only team that values this guy?

A lot of teams could use a consistent .333 OBP outfielder who runs and steals bases extremely well.

His CF defense is weak, but I think he'd be above average in a corner OF spot, perhaps well above, which the advanced stats from his time as a Twin support. As does common sense, imo, since a lot of lumbering stiffs man the corners, which bring much easier reads and shorter/fewer throws

The question from the Phillies' perspective is what he will cost when they're ready to contend again and how much power they can add elsewhere. But he's among the least of my worries

BRef has Revere worth half a win this season. Fangraphs is much more favorable at 1.6 WAR.

He's outperformed his compensation this year. He might well do so next year, even though his salary probably will triple or quadruple. Beyond that, I don't think he's a real good bet. They won't compete next year, so I'd look to move him while he's still a value. But I doubt they do that, because reasons.

This is what I'm wondering. It would seem to be smart to sell high on Revere and add a piece that could help the rebuild.

Does anyone really think our Phillies would trade "high" on a guy that won or almost won the batting title? Pay attention! They'll sell him as a cornerstone of the refurbish movement

This would be the "reason[/]s" to which I referred. No doubt but that if he wins the batting title they will market the shit out of him. Family friendly fun and all that.

Remember last year when Amaro said he didn't want to trade Michael Young because "he's my best bat" lol . Although he did trade him so there is hope I guess.

A young, scrappy, go-getter who can really slap the ball to inconvenient places on the infield.

I'd love to see a MattS analysis on Revere's season.

Observationally, I don't think his GB/FB ratio is an different than it was before. Historically, we know that hitters with that type of ratio will regress to a very lousy norm in terms of BA. Intellectually*, I know that probabilities are not really intuitive to humans, so my thesis is that having a stretch like this with a high BA for Revere is not indicative of skill, but instead just a matter of random chance. i.e., regression to the norm is expected and imminent.

*- in this context it means 'I've read it a lot". I'd normally try to use a word with a much less self-serving connotation, but it was the only way I could think of to make my adverb trio work out.

I think he's a useful player, but not in the role they will inevitably place him.

It's been three years of .300 BA /.330 OBP offense for Revere now, and his GB/FB rate this year is slightly lower than his career average. And he's 26, playing with pins in his ankle.

Again, if they can add two stud outfielders, great. But replacing Brown and Howard and bolstering the rotation is a much higher priority for me
