Rep. Steve King (R-IA) said on Wednesday that he saw no reason to be concerned about the possibility of racial profiling in police clashes with protesters in Ferguson, Mo. because the protestors all appeared to be of a single "continental origin."

King appeared on Newsmax TV on Wednesday where host J.D. Hayworth asked him about the escalating conflict in Ferguson. When asked about the concerns raised by members of the Congressional Black Caucus about the possibility of racial profiling, King said those were unsubstantiated.

"This idea of no racial profiling," King said, "I've seen the video. It looks to me like you don't need to bother with that particular factor because they all appear to be of a single, you know, of a single origin, I should say, a continental origin might be the way to phrase that."

From that article:

Federal civil rights investigators and the FBI are carrying out their own inquiries into the controversial case. In the town of 21,000, there’s a history of distrust between the predominantly black community and the largely white police force.

“Race relations is a top priority right now and, as I said, I’m working with the Department of Justice to improve that,” Jackson told reporters Wednesday.

Only three of the city’s 53 officers are African-American, and Jackson said he is working to change that. About two-thirds of the residents of Ferguson are African-American, and most of the rest are Caucasian.

Dorian Johnson, who said he saw the shooting, told CNN on Tuesday that the officer who opened fire is white.

(Jackson is the Ferguson Police Chief.)

But hey, they have black councilmen. Or something.

Then look at the later post where he quotes Twitter posts. He's complaining about the damn commie libs who love to hate on America and tout our problems as a reason that we shouldn't meddle in foreign affairs.

American liberals and American conservatives and libertarians of a more isolationist bent to some extent. But also foreign leaders like Putin who will no doubt bring up Ferguson the next time the State Department complains about how he handles domestic opposition or we suggest intervention or condemnation of some regime that's slaughtering its citizens. He'd have opposed our action X regardless, but the events in Missouri would lend his criticism the veneer of reasonableness, which is a shame.

If that was your intended point, fair enough. But it certainly didn't come across that way.

Well, turns out I had that exactly backwards. The "1033" program apparently started about 20 years ago, and "exploded" after 9/11. But it still seems to support my thesis.

Timely link that I swear I didn't see until just now

This is why you don't arm local police forces like they are the military.

They can't now, at least not until it calms down. They should've done it immediately, but they've botched everything so badly they need to keep it secret to protect the guy's family. Otherwise who knows what might happen.

Doesn't make it just or fair, but at least it's the correct move right now.
