Because they're incompetent. These people have no idea what they're doing, nor do they have leadership who knows what they're doing. This is the problem with giving them tanks and assault rifles. They may know how to use them, but they don't know when to use them.

An awful lot of the local government, at least the elected people, are black. The police are disproportionately white. Everyone seems to be awful at their job.

There's something deeply depressing about people acting on behalf of the state attacking journalists representing a Middle Eastern press outfit in the fucking continental United States of America.

In addition to it being indefensible, this will be held up by the "what about xyz" crowd who love critiquing every American action, domestic or abroad, as if the fact that the police in St. Louis County, Missouri having a crappy couple of nights mean we should ignore tens of thousands of people dying on a mountain somewhere because our moral standing is sufficiently poor that we don't have the ability to intervene to prevent them from dying of starvation/dehydration/beheading/crucifixion or whatever.
