I'd watch that movie.

Limiting access to birth control and opposing sex education and slut shaming do not reduce the number of abortions. If you really opposed abortion, you'd promote comprehensive sex education and access to birth control.

"You" in the sense of "All the people out there promoting abstinence education," or me?

Sorry, still thinking about Natalie Portman clones.

Capacity is probably the wrong word. Abortions don't reduce reproductive capacity. I meant something like "incidence."

I'm just making fun of the phrase here. Reproduction refers to (or at least used to refer to) the production of a child. Although the etymology doesn't go back too far. But now, reproduction rights groups are interested in the laws and access to practices that limit the incidence of births. It's the opposite of reproduction... Child Prevention Activists?

It's like if people who were interested in "Gun Rights Activists" were the ones trying to reduce the number of guns out there. :) Hmmm, I may be 0 for 2.

Yes, there have been clone movies (6th Day, How to Kill Your Clone, The Island), but there can never be too many movies that grapple with the weighty issues.

birth control gives power to the female to decide when it's time for a child in their life. for some women maybe that time is sooner, some it's later. Some it may be never. Birth control limits abortions and prevents the ending of those fetuses' existence.

when a woman goes for an abortion, people for reproductive rights want respect for the woman's needs, not 'sidewalk counselors' threatening her and condemning her.

Look, if you don't feel people should ever have sex if they're not willing to create a potential new life every. single. time., that's an opinion.

Do you really believe it's a pervasive goal of people who feel women should have latitude to make their own decisions about personally giving birth to "limit the incidence of births" inclusively, globally?

Because that seems both absurdly reductive and probably completely erroneous.

That's my point. People fighting for reproductive rights at 20 weeks aren't taking the position that reproduction should occur. It's that maybe it shouldn't!

You guys are so wound up tight. You'd think my comments about clones and natalie portman would have suggested I wasnt make a grand statement that contraception is bad and reproductive rights activists are all whack jobs.

Can we all agree - there is no dumber conflict than the "War on Drugs" ?

The surge of unaccompanied minors coming across America’s southern border has given rise to a humanitarian crisis, and with it, debates about immigration policy and border security. Lost in these discussions, however, is the role the American drug war has played in creating the crisis. And this is only the latest crisis. For decades, Washington’s crusade against illegal drugs has destroyed lives, destabilized civil society and generally wreaked havoc on Mexico and the countries of Central and South America.
