i don't wanna sound like some grumpy hater troll, but seriously, enough of this flyers culture shit. it's like an incest family. the fans have suffered long enough. a whole chain of people in that front office have to die in succession or something for a new fresh heir to claim the throne.

i'm all for getting a less dumb GM, but the fans haven't "suffered" through anything. they haven't won a cup in forever, but the team has been consistently competitive. since the terrible teams in the early 90s, we've missed the playoffs twice and were a consistent contender for almost a decade before the lockout.

Making the playoffs in a league where over half the teams make the playoffs isn't that great. Also they had the ability to outspend most teams before the cap.

It could be worse but maybe if they did really struggle and missed the playoffs a few years things would have changed.

one hope for getting rid of vinny is laviolette getting a job somewhere. he signed here to play in lavy's system so maybe he can be convinced to go wherever he lands.

well being in the top half of the league all but two years out of a 20 year span is pretty good. from 93-94 to the lockout they went to the conference finals 4 times and the stanley cup once. that's a good amount of deep playoff runs.

it really is insane. this was holmgren's sixth 82-game season as gm. this season was the second time they failed to reach the final 8.
tho this guy killed him for signing berube for two years so who knows what's wrong with him.

They can be underwhelming without the fans "suffering." the latter is a hyperbolic cliche anyway so you can define it however you want. But the Flyers haven't had a forward-thinking front office since I've known what a front office is

Hard to tell since it's mostly snider trying to win before he dies.

Not really sure what the argument here is...Bobby Clarke was an embarrassment and Holmgren's pretty bad. The team has won despite them, and a GM with half a brain may have won a title.

40 years without a title, when a good portion of those years there was no cap and almost limitless money available, while not suffering, is still pretty sad.

i'm all for getting a better GM, but lets not act like this is a shit franchise. we're not an embarrassment like the browns or the cubs. they've had pretty bad GMs, but still put out a pretty consistently good hockey team.

This is absurd. They won despite Holmgren acquiring literally the entire team?

Come on, nobody's claiming Holmgren is the greatest GM in the history of the game, but let's not pretend he can't tie his shoes. Holmgren took over in 2006. He's always worked with the salary cap. Since then, they've missed the playoffs once (in a lockout-shortened season), they've won a conference title, a division title, and advanced in the playoffs four times.

If they want to make a change, so be it. His mandate is to win cups, and he hasn't done it. That's fine. But he's not a bad GM.

I watched the game with his granddaughter last week. She couldn't talk or walk or turn herself over and she spit up on herself at least once but she was pretty chill. So he's got that going for him

His moves and bad contracts have been argued pretty extensively, not trying to get into that again, but the overall point remains: It'd be nice to get someone with a new perspective into the org.

Agreed, not saying this is a shit franchise, just wish this "ol' time hockey" vibe would end. Of course, as long as Snider's around...

Hopefully.

Just for shits and giggles I was looking over some of Holmgren's moves: Traded 2008 1st round pick for Steve Eminger...ouch! Washington used that pick on John Carlson...double ouch!

At least our draft pick from that year scored 30 goals this past year!

The Upshall PLUS a 2nd for DAN CARCILLO one is the worst.

But he also traded Alexei Zhitnik for Coburn.

Ultimately, I believe Holmgrens tenure is defined by the Pronger trade. We gave up Sbisa (a guy that will probably play 15-20 years in the NHL), Lupul, plus two more first round picks. Pronger essentially played around 2 seasons (and only 1 healthy playoff run) for the Flyers before his freakish injury. The Flyers pedigree of drafting in the first round leads me to believe that we would have gotten productive players out of the 09/10 picks. The Flyers deprived themselves of 3 consecutive first round picks to try and win the cup and they got really close, but I don't think we need to trade for Luke Schenn if Pronger is still playing. He's everything the Flyers are lacking in one player.
