We're in the range of statistical probability where I'd seriously consider literally betting my life on the Phillies not making the playoffs
Apparently we're not allowed back on the bandwagon. I say we start a new one and not let people on unless they can do math
I bet. It must be awful when people point out how wrong you are.
Because just because it's not a literal impossibility doesn't mean it's worth considering.
Because you're too smart to get excited about one chance in 1000
I care because people talk to me about baseball and I'd rather ground my conversations in reality.
That's the kind of notion that's so impossible it's better to entertain it in private.
Here's why the irrational hope bothers me: It's the attempt to peddle a practical impossibility as a valid opinion. It's not.
They've been done for months. It's been over for months. Hoping otherwise does not make it so. Move on, so I can too.
It's like thinking your ex is going to get back together with you. Accept the truth.
I'll concede it's a literal possibility. Now if you'll excuse me I'll be storing canned goods for the forthcoming nuclear war

I know, right?
I was just thinking of this when I was planning what I would do to celebrate the 50 year anniversary of the 1964 Pennant winning Phillie club in a couple of years.

Only after I got done remembering the epic Phillies/Braves division series last year after the Braves maintained a 9.5 game lead throughout September to clinch the wild card handily.

Too bad we can't do Math.
If we could, then we could wallow in misery instead of enjoying the greatest game ever.

If the Phillies win at least 13 of their next 15 and the Cardinals and Braves are both under .500 in that span, we can talk
So the Phillies are one historic winning streak away from having a remote chance of getting to the play-in game. If they get help.
